69 911e price question

I looked at a 69 911e this weekend that was for sale at Limerock park. I thought I'd run this buy you guys before calling the guy for more details as the price seemed kind of high. maybe I'm missing something.

The car is slate gray and has been repainted quite a while ago. It needs to be repainted again. there is some rust on the front fenders. The interior is not the greatest ether. No carpets/very old canvas type racing seats.headliner and dash need some help also. very musty smelling.
He said that he auto crossed it for a couple of years but didn't no that much about it's over all history.

The good points:
The car has been lowered/ s type polished wheels /oil cooler with stainless lines run on the outer pass side under carrage/ dual weber carbs/ 4 point roll bar with racing belts that attach to the rear deck. 70 lbs of oil presure @ 4k RPMS.

It has the 2.2 liter and the shroud is painted green. It looks like it has been apart at one time. over all it looks okay.
The owner says it has had the tensioner upgrade but he has no documentation on the car at all.
He also said that the car has no rust other then the front fenders as it was a california car.

He's asking 10.5K for this car . What I'm I missing? does a 69 command this kind of money?

depends on the condition and what a PPI turns up. Rust...bad. Early E...good. A very clean/no rust E can fetch close to $20K. A rust bucket can be less than $10K.

I'd check carefully for rust...if it is showing in one place, odds are it is hidden in ten others.

Too pricy. Keep looking.

I bought my 1970 911E with a 2.7, lowered, roll cage, front oil cooler, Webers, SSIs, racing tires, very good white paint, OK interior, nice Recarros, ZERO rust, for $6000 2 years ago. The seller also had no history on it, and he only raced it (He's now a fairly well-known driver.) Although it ran well and was fast, the engine was tired and I replaced it for $4K with a rebuilt 3.0. In comparison with my experince, you should be able to do better.

I think that price is a bit optimistic. There are several factors that detract from that car.

Stripped track interior
No MFI
Potential for rust that is already described in the fenders.

It sounds like its a $6-7K car but only if the chassis is in good condition.

I would go to the Early S Registry home page and ask this same questions. Several of the registry members were at the event and no doubt saw the car. Im sure they could offer some good advice

Overpriced -- you can get an S for that in similar condition. I would keep looking.

Wht you are describing is a $4K to $5K car at most. It needs too much to make it a nice car. I don't think I'd bother with a PPI on the car & would look elsewhere. There are a bunch of guys who own nice '69 911s on this BBS might sell in the future. If the car has rust in the fenders, it very well might have rust in the back fender supports for the front fenders, the rear of the fenders above the tail light housings, behind the doors, rear package tray & bottom corners of the windows under the rubber gaskets. I'd check those places out if you persist in considering the car.

Thanks Marv,
I guess I just found it very discouraging to look at a car in this kinda of condition for so much money. I'll keep looking.

I found the early registery site.

Being the owner of a '69E, I agree. Let it go -- you can do better. For $10 grand on a 2.0E, I'd expect at least 2 or 3 of the following:

MFI
Clean reasonably nice interior
Rust Free exterior
Virtually rust free tub (proven by a PPI or lots of poking with a screw driver)

I'd add extra weight to the last point, if the tub is clean, the rest can fixed. If the tub is rusty, forgetaboutit.

Stuff like the car being lowered, etc I discount out of hand since that can be changed with just a few hours of work and virtually no investment.

agree with everything except:

'you can get an S for that in similar condition'

to which I can only offer a 'hearty guffaw'.

Either way, walk, too much money. Buyer's market for everything but the best cars right now...
