Need to vent. 993TT swiped from under me today
I drove three hours to Houston after arranging with a salesrep to drive a '96 TT and after driving it I was ready to sign on the dotted line. He went to get the paperwork and his internet sales partner had sold it to another person out of state while I was on the test drive. Since he did it on Ebay the owner of the dealership would not sale me the car since the ebay buyer would likely leave negative feedback. Needless to say I was pissed. What can you do???
Anyone know where an affordable 993TT is. Meaning less that 60K. |

It was a really wierd deal. The car was listed on ebay but with no "buy it now". While I was out test driving it the other sales rep was working a deal with the out of state guy and put up a "buy it now" at their agreed upon price. What a load of crap huh.

Been alot of that going on in Texas lately.
The guy on the phone probably told his buyer there was a guy test driving it so he would pull the trigger. Oh well, Cash is King ![]() Edit: And I mean that as you still have yours. ![]() |

They realized they made a mistake for not placing a "buy it now "
so they faked it and told you it was sold so they do not loose money. |

well they're worried about negative feedback on Ebay, how about telling us what dealership it is. It might not be as big as Ebay, but people remember things like this when they deal with dealers. Good Luck on finding your next gem. As terrible as it may make you feel, sometimes things happen for a reason. Maybe something a little better is right around the corner.

I've been in there a few times. They do often sell cars for very good prices.
I would be extremely pissed if I was you.

It happens. I worked at a dealership (not P-car) and cars got sold sometimes in the showroom while someone else was out in it. No Ebay involved. Whoever signs first takes home the prize.
Needless to say, each time it left a bad taste for the other salesperson and his customer. But, it teaches you quick what it's all about. I quit anyway because of other crap that goes on at any dealership. I have too many ethics to work at as a car salesperson. BTW and OT, the term "salesrep" is too often misused to elevate the status of a salesman/woman. It works because of being nongender sensative. However, a sales representative traditonally is a promotion/marketing guy not directly involved in selling product. Tagging the 'rep' suffix on to sales has become common, but reps represent the product from the manufacturer and usually contact the wholesaler as a client. Just another term that has lost its true meaning like our trashmen becoming become sanitary engineers. ![]() I see the term "Sales Representative" on a business card and I think, "Yeah, right. And I'm a buyer's representative, then." |

All we need to know about this is ... "used car salespersons!"
What else needs to be said?

Just email the buyer from the eBay auction (if listed) and tell what happened and to be weary of this dealer. Then tell how bad the car is
![]() Maybe the dealer would lose both sales, now that would be a taste of their own medicine.. Chris Walrod |

While I would be extremely disappointed I find it hard to fault the dealer in this case. You discussed the car over the phone, went to drive it, most likely would've done a PPI and the sale was only to occur after these events. Not much risk or buyers remorse.
The buyer on Ebay bought it without seeing it in person, without driving it and apprarently without a PPI. Lots of risk for a high $$ car. Sounds like you are buying the right way and while this one got away, there will be another.... |

I wouldn't feel bad about it - stuff happens move on - it wasn't meant to be. Would you have bought it without a drive or PPI? Not likely.
Who's to say it wouldn't have passed a PPI? Then how would you feel? How about if you drove it off the lot and found the bearings in one of the turbos start to go bad? Still feel bad? When I hear of stuff like that - hey someone out there who's a bigger risk taker than me - more power - and huevos than I have...

I believe I checked out that car on their website. The price seems fair for that milage. 106K on an 8 year old car is a hefty sum, even for a Porsche. Unless that car has had immaculate service with some parts needing replaced (clutch?), it could well fall into a money pit. Black paint doesnt age well also. Better to spend more for a lower milage car. I would cringe to see what they would hit you for for any major work on a 993TT. Major Porsche tax would take effect.

The car was current on service, the turbos and clutch were replaced at the 90k service. It was clean and ran excellent. The price was right even with the high mileage.
The funny thing is I am looking at another one right now, it has 48k on the clock and had a complete rebuild at 45k. That owner paid a serious porsche tax to the sum of 10k for a car that was three years old. I don't think lower miles always means less worries with these cars. |
