won't idle when "semi-cold"
Specifics: 1980 911SC Targa
When I first start the car it idles fine for a few minutes (cold start is good). While it is starting to warm up (like after 1/8th of a mile) it will immediately die when I put in the clutch (when stopping). After it is fully warmed up (20 minutes of driving) it idles just fine. Any clues? Jim

If you let the car warm up while idling (not driven) what happens? What rpm? If you depress the clutch what happens? If you give it some gas what happens?

I have not tried the warming up while idling..as it takes too long to get it warmed up enough to idle. When fully warm it idles at about 800-900 rpm. When dead on cold it's about the same (maybe a tad higher).
While it's in this "zone"...if i just keep alittle pressure on the gas peddle it will idle. It also "hunts" during this time if I have some pressure on the peddle...meaning the rpm's will flucuate up and down but won't idle steady. On the what happens if I depress the clutch...assuming you mean standing still and not in gear...acts the same whether clutch is in or out. Jim

I think you are running too rich. Have you checked your CO w/ a gauge?
You can try leaning it 1/8 turn and see if the symptoms continue. Let us know if this helps.

fwiw. cold starts at 60degF need about 2min at 1500rpm idle to reach about 175degF CHT. At around that temp combustion starts to become nice.
