Progress Report

Got to spend some time in the garage today. First I got my gear box mounted on my new engine stand. I plan to take it back apart partially to clean the case real good before I give it to my mechanic to rebuild. Yes, I pussed out & decided that I'm going to let John Walker do the rebuild because it only makes sense, I'm sure it won't be that much more than doing it myself & I'll have the piece of mind knowing that it's been done right.

Next I removed my CIS. I made sure I tagged (thanks Dan) all my electrical connectors. I plan on cleaning everything up & replacing anything rubber that is suspect. I'm not particularly looking forward to figuring how it will all go back together. I wish I had the $3k to bolt on some Webbers.

Next I removed the bastard SSIs, alternator, & engine cover. The fan strap was a pain to get out & I'm not sure I was supposed to take it out, probable be a bigger pain to get back in. The engine cover is kind of rough, but I think I can make it look good again.

All in all it was a pretty productive day. I'm media blasting & repainting all my engine tin. I plan to polish my intake runners, fan, & housing then clear coat them. This is a great project, I love working on my car!!!

Brave man, good stuff, keep it coming. It's giving me the courage to do the same sometime soon.
Be sure to take pics of before and after of everything, I love those.

I must have missed a prior post. on what happened. anyway...
For the transmission are you selecting a different gearing with the rebuild? External cooler?
Just curious.

Nice avatar Eric, that was my fav when I was overseas. Yes, that's without the motor. It figures that it would get your attention. However I am planning on dropping an additional 100lb this winter which will start to get me into your ball park, around 2320lb.

Tim I'm not changing anything in my gearbox, I'm trying to get out of this as cheap as possible. In fact as I'm pulling apart my CIS, it appears that most of the rubber pieces are still in good shape which will save my a boat load of money. I'll just clean everything up & put it back together.

Looks like you've been busy Paul! When you get everything together, there might be a new pacesetter for MonsterRun III. ric

Tonight I got my CIS completely dismantled & found that all my rubber is indeed in good shape. I'll use your tip on reconditioning it Noah.

The media blaster I have access to has real fine sand in it. If I tape off all the inlets, can I use this to clean up the intake runners before I polish them? Or would a wire wheel be ok to use?

I put the entire fuel distributor in a bucket of fuel for storage minus the black electronic module connected to the side of the throttle body & the green electrical plug connected to the back of the air sensor (what is this). The closest name I could find in PET was "safety contact". See the green plug in the middle of the pic.

You are to be commended on the scope of your job. Great name, too.

The green safety contact is to stop the fuel pump in the event of a rollover. Don't mix it up w/ the blue one, which is for the cold start valve .
