1995 993 - What to watch for?
A friend of mine just called me who's thinking about buying a Polar Silver 993 coupe. He knows almost nothing about 911's.
I know the wiring harness is an issue on the 95's, and that the windshield might creak. Anything else he should be checking for? Also, what would be a typical price nowadays for a 95 with 80K on it?

Assuming that the engine, transmission, body and interior are all in really good condition, I'd focus on simple but costly things like tires, shocks, door check strap (about a $500 repair), clutch pedal (sticking as it's released, indicates problem with master and/or slave cylinders).
Should definitely be below $30k, how much depends on list of what it needs and condition. Chris.

He bought it.
$25,500. Makes you wonder why anyone would buy a Boxster.

Where do you guys find these cars? I'm in Atlanta, and any car I see under 32K is a piece of crap!
Lots of Concour quality for 40. All I want is a solid Guards Red 993 for a daily driver, for 30 or less. Help!

Red '95 993 under 30k. Very close to me. I can look at it if you want. Chris.

Wiring harness issue is covered by dealer recall. Like ChrisL said, little stuff on these cars can get costly. If that car still has the original shocks, they are most definitely finished. I skipped a PPI on mine, as the seller was the most anal, meticulous guy I had ever met and had every receipt from day one. But I still missed a torn tie rod boot and rear toe arm boot. Those parts ain't cheap. Even though I DIY'ed the install, I was a good $800 into it after the alignment. 18" wheels and lowering springs sure make these cars look better.

$25,500???? That's like £14,000
![]() Over here that'll get you an average, late model Carrera or an early LHD 964. Bet if you tried to ship one over here the taxes would cripple the deal ![]()

I think you could import a Cali 993 into the UK and still come out on top even with taxes at prices like that. I guess LHD 94 imports start at what, £20k?

Yep Phil, I think the cheapest 993 I ever saw was about £21,000. LHD early model. Although, I have seen crash damaged ones go cheaper but still not as low as 14 grand!

Early car prices and 993 prices are on a collision course!
![]() Actually, with 993's solidly below $30K, I wonder where the highly under-rated 964 prices are???? |

Seems like everyone is going the 993 route!!!
I bet the new Black Beauty will be a 993 RS waddya say Jack!!! ? As for the importation of cars to the UK, I recently imported my 2 cars. The 2002 Golf had to be adjusted for UK roads- New light lenses and simple rewireing to turn off the daytime running lights, plus add a 2nd rear fog light. This took me a couple of hours to do. There is a company who will do the work for you. Then the same company will do the test for you. This company is called the SVA test facility. Cars under 10 yrs old Have to be SVA tested If you have been resident overseas for +12 months and have owned the car for more than 6 months then you owe NO tax! ![]() I shipped 2 cars with Wallenius lines and it cost be about $1,000 per car all in! So I may be looking at a 993 aswell! Yet another car to store in a foreign country!! ![]() Ben

I bought my Boxster for differentation, as I already had a 911 variant in the garage. If you're considering track work, the 993 is a much better route than a Boxster in my mind, since I have a several friends who have suffered poor reliability with their Boxsters on the track. I keep mine nestled inside on track days, letting the 911 out to play. On nice days, it's a tough call which to take out...
