Opimoly- where to get?

I understand that prior to installing the transmission on engine the input shaft splines should be lubricated with "Optimoly HT" or equivalent - per bentley manual

where can one get optimoly? Local auto stores?
What , if any, are the equivalents?

Dealer has it - a fistfull will last you 10 years - even if you do a rebuild.

Ther are many other good anti-siezes but only the HT has been tested to not alter torques.

You could use almost any for what you're doing. Pelican must carry some, or a parts store will have Loctite brand.

Are you implying the use of Optimoly yields lubed torque values equal to dry torque values..???

Or...are you saying that the ( now reduced) torque values are so-much-more-consistent with this stuff vs other lubes ??

PAG TSB sez same (!) as to oil or dry I don't know -- BA had this in his column months ago. If you research it, you can post here.

I used the stuff on the head stud washers, like the Spec Book says. It's like that stringy grease stuff. I mean, it's a very thick amber grease. The kind that you put on stuff that'll never see grease again.

Hello Earl,

My first post on this great forum ( after reading it twice a day...), so a short introduction will follow. Since one year I have a 1985 Grand Prix White 3,2 Carrera Cab. 96.000km, runs great. Meanwhile some slight mods( 2,7 type decktail, perforated airlid, Weltmeister camberstrut). Looking for a dp-11 exhaust, which in Germany seems to be the utmost sound. I live in Holland, also here many 911 enthusiasts.

Now to the topic:
I bought this stuff after a long search on e-Bay Germany.
A guy can deliver it, only in rather large amounts of 100 grams or more. Maybe I can contact him again if you are interested. It is still produced by Castrol Industrie GmbH,Monchengladbach. Temp. range from -40 to 1100 degrees Celcius. Really great lubricant.
I use it on the wheel studs to prevent freezing of the bolts.
Keep them rolling(and sliding) !!!

If the local dealer is clueless, you can get it mail order from Sunset in portalnd at a discount or from Stoddards in Ohio.

I know Pelican carries LubriMoly and others. Again Bruce ANderson states that tehre is TSB re the Optimolloy and the fact that you do not need to change torque values when using it. I think it is the lug nut TSB (re putting a little on the curved part of the lug nut, etc.).

Note that there are 2 optimoly's: Optimoly TA and Optimoly HT. I discovered this when I ordered "Optimoly" and got the "TA" version instead of the "HT" that I was expecting.

So regular anti-sieze on the head studs is not a good idea? How do I clean it off the studs and retorque?
