Nice job Tyson!

I know this isn't a democracy but I vote for an MFI 2.5 and keeping the fenders unflared. HRE 311's to fit some fat 7's under there.

Man, running an AX on an airport. . .WAY cool. . .

The guy works in the den of temptation, he certainly would be the master of his domain if he stopped his car development there.
Imho Tyson could do better building street legal RS clones, tracking them, winning, enjoying and selling them once a year (for a profit).
With his driving skill and car building talent he could win on Sunday sell on Monday.
My TTOD was not on street tires, you earned bonus bragging rights!

Yawn. Here's the "rest of the story:" Upgrades schmupgrades. Tyson was, for a brief time, giving our best local drivers fits at AX, and we have some pretty noteworthy drivers. In Scruffy.

So, I think he could take a stock 1.6L cir cooled Beetle to AX and still scare the class champs. Most of you know this. We spend lots of dough on 'go fast' parts, but it's at least 90% driver. And 10% traction.

So, yawn.

oh man, you just sold me on a 3.2 lol, I've wanted to stay "chip-less" in the spirit of "no computers" in my car, but beating such machinery just did it! I understand that the driver had LOTS to do w/ that win, but at least then I know that the machine is capable of such feats.

Congrats Tyson. Winning is one thing, fastest time of.the.day. is another!

The NY plate is a nice touch. That was officially an East Coast victory. Big Up! Yeah!

Tyson--
congrats from me as well.

As John points out, the NY plate is still on the car. Make sure you don't afoul of the DMV folks - There is a 20 day window to register a car after bringing it in to CA before they start adding penalties.

From the CA DMV site:
Fees must be paid within 20 days of entry or residency to avoid penalties.

Scrappy is a very tight little car. I side with John, don't flare the car. You clearly don't need to! Plus, the cool factor of spanking people with 7's! And hey, the suspension on the car is not that tired. Its just not yet up to the EVIL standard.

yes but the actual, physical, arrival of the car into the state is an "unknown". My word against theirs, why would theirs count more?

Sorry for the hijack:
I'd also stay narrow but I'm biased. Without any insults, the "lowlier" and "weaker" the car *looks*, the more fun you'll have spanking the fancy cars.

Red face

I have two nasty letters from the NY DMV wondering why I cancelled my coverage on Scrappy because they still don't have the plates back...

LOL, sorry to hear that. You *could* be working on it extensively and therefore not using it for the next 8 months or so, after which you *will* put it back on the road and *then* you'll insure it again. If it takes a bit longer, ooooops, the restoration was quite extensive and there's no telling exactly how long such things take.

I see no reason why things should go along w/ the Nazi/DMV scheduling or reasoning. People take their cars off the road for many reasons and suspend/cancel the insurance. New Englanders do that w/ motorcycles all the time.

I realize that states differ somewhat in their laws. For example, in NH you don't even have to return the plates when you change/get rid of a car. Some places you do. But who is to say that you're done w/ the car? They don't know you sold it. At worst, you'll still have yearly registration fees. Personally, I think people are entirely way to "jumpy" when it comes to what the DMV requires.

(No offense to any DMV employees that happen to be Pelicanites or worse, lawmakers creating the rules which the DMV administers. I just think much of what goes on has to do w/ revenue collection and generating income for the towns/states in question. Other than having it registered and adequately insured, it shouldn't matter where the reg or insurance originates.)
