Going through the new SC's receipts, wow!

Man this thing cost somebody some serious dough! The shop that did the engine work is called "********" in Indy. The rebuild alone was $17k back in '96. That seems pretty excessive for nearly 10 years ago, no?

Not to mention the guy that owned it worked there and likely got a decent discount????

Anyone ever hear of this place?

Edit: Wow I quoted myself, I got issues

What's the address of the place? There is a place I go by on the west side called ********, but I don't know much about them and haven't heard anything about them. It would be either west 10th street or w michigan ave. They always have at least one pre 90 911 in their lot and several bugs. I once stopped in to talk with them while passing by and the guy could barley speak english. I think he was fresh off the boat from Germany.

It says they're on North Keystone Ave. I am not at all familiar with Indy so I got nothing. Looks like they were a multi-marque house.

Well, it's kinda weird cause the guy left half a dozen check stubs in with the receipts and they were documenting the deductions on the stubs. They were in line with the receipts (I.E. $689 receipt for SSI's and $689 deduction on stub"forSSI's"

The rebuild was jugs/pistons/studs/on and on, the works. What sucks is that they did not document the items so many are just called "special order". There is no way this thing is stock so I wish I knew.

Uhh, don't know of any places on N. Keystone. I live on the north side, very close to Keystone. Do you have an exact address? I would like to drive by and check it out tomorrow. I wasn't aware there was any place close to me (other than the stealer, i mean dealer) that sold Porsche parts, or worked on them. Do you have any pics of the car? How do you like it compared to you 930 you sold?

Actual address is:

5000 North Keystone Ave.
Indy

edit: remember this was '96

The two cars couldn't be more different. The 930 was a weird sensation, the lightswitch powerband and disgusting pull on boost was great. But to be honest this SC is MUCH more fun to drive on the street. Whatever was done to this engine it has a ton of low end and revs very quick. It's a sprinter where as the 930 was a missle.

I did an AX for giggles with it last year and could not keep the rears stuck. I was rally sliding, tires ablaze, around most of the turns. Something I've never seen in an SC. Granted the tires were bad, but this thing is different.

Ah ha! I know where it is now, or was. It was about a mile east of my house. My father had his 72 Karmann Ghia cab restored by them to the tune of $10k back in 94. They did great work, but were very expensive (as you already know). His car was better than new when he got it back, unfortunately it cost more than it was worth at the time to have it done. They went under about 4 years ago, don't know why though. Too bad you don't know what was put in that engine, but I would guess that it was built well, at least it should have been for that price! Sound like a nice car. We need pictures!!!

No pics yet, but here is a short video I took the other day just so I could record the exhaust note.

Thanks to Chris for hosting. And my dog Sammi for barking her approval.

It is a bit loud When cruising it has a sweet spot that is fine, but when she's gettin it's downright unholy. It's sounds much "raspier" in person, I took this vid with a little digital camera w/mpeg capability so the audio is low quality.

Thanks Dennis,

Yep, it's CIS. Best I can tell from the receipts is that it has SSI's and a Borla Muffler.

She's far from perfect cosmetic wise but the mechanicals are solid. Like I said, great fun to drive. I don't have official plans for her yet, but have tossed around flares, etc.. Just not sure.

Yes it does sound nice.
Since the engine rebuild had special order items. And it might a little better than stock, do you have plans to dyno?

Don't know on the dyno, I doubt it's a HP monster, just real free revving and torquey. I also saw a receipt for "Aluminum flywheel" is that stock? All my knowledge is 930. My neigbors are fine, one has a drag car he starts every Sunday morning and the other flys Nascar flags in his front lawn No problems yet.

Very cool and great video. I would love to see a dyno ! Torque and spinning the wheels on a CIS car might well mean it is a 3.2 short stroke or a 3.4. Sounds like one
