Cool Beru connector

hello all, have a spuratic miss in my 73.5 911T, got to checking the basics timing, dist. cap and rotor for wear... got to checking the spark plug wires to diagnose the culprit of the miss. When i grabed the number 4 beru connector to pull it out, it gave me a little suprise of its own(a nice shock). Upon inspection after the ignition is off, the rubber gromet around the beru connector was all gooey and broken down. Is this a sign of a beru connector leaking to ground.

Thanks Hunter

Time to get new wires. It will only get worse.

Beru's are famous for that, even new ones will give you a shock. That's why they have warning stickers on the coil of the high voltage.

I agree with Jerry.

When Jerry says “new wires” he means wires, plug connectors, spark plugs, cap, rotor, and careful cleaning of all the electrical connections, including grounds. Make sure the wires are supported in the original rubber pieces or equivalent.

The brown Beru plug connectors should be the original Factory or OEM equivalent. Beru also makes an equivalent black connector that doesn’t have resistive radio suppression. There are used on 906, 911R, and more. These are available from any Beru supplier. They also make a small connector that fits a 12 mm 2nd sparkplug and fits inside the lower valve cover.

If you have an aftermarket high energy ignition system, you should have the best wiring possible and keep the cap, rotor, and plug connectors replaced regularly.

Best,
Grady
