installed MB911's muffler today-wow!!

Well I got around to installing one of MB911s 2 in 2 out mufflers on my 83SC with SSI's and all I can say is holy s$$t this is a nice muffler!!First off the welds are fantastic and it fit great, had to open up the screw holes a little bit but everything lined up fine.I removed my rear valance so in the future I can modify the passenger side to match the drivers side.I purchased SS clamps from my local Ace hardware in the size 5 to 7 inch and they fit perfect in place of the factory clamps, they are not as heavy duty but Ben(MB911) said they support the muffler fine. Now to the sound, when I first started it up my knees started to shake, this thing sounds nice,a deep rumble but not annoying.I let the car idle for a few minutes as I checked for leaks and there were none, now it was time to make the neighbors scared,I goosed the throttle a few time to about 4000 revs and this thing sounds like a Formula one car!!! I then took it for a short drive because it was starting to rain but it sounds great while driving,it does have a little bit of resonance from 2000 to 2400 at least on my car but before and after that it is sweet music,I think as I get used to it and maybe not lug the engine around town I think it will be perfect. Also because of earlier feedback Ben had cut my tailpipes 11/2 inch shorter than his earlier mufflers and this length in my opinion is perfect.I weighed my Leistritz muffler I took off and on my bathroom scale it weighed 25 lbs.,Bens muffler was 15 so I shaved 10 pounds off the butt of the car, this is a win win as far as I'm concerned.I thought I was going to polish the tips but I decided not to.I will post some pics maybe next week because I am going out of country for business for a few days.Good product, great delivery service and from what I can tell from my email conversations a nice guy also.Enjoy and you'll hear me coming!!!

Do you have a crossover tube for your SSI's? They way mine are routed the PO used a shim between the SSI's and the exhaust to move the muffler car rearward for clearance. Can you post a pic of your set up? 911SCfanatic and I installed the MB911 muffler today as well but have an issue because the tail pipe crashes into the valance. This is due to the need for the clearance shims. How did you guys get around this with the SSI's?

I can't comment on the fit of the valance because I have not put it back on I still have to modify the right side.I do not have any shims or spacers with my SSI's,the muffler mounts to them with just the gaskets in between.Maybe I can post some pics tomorrow before I go out of town.

Ben, are you going to do a single-in single-out for the 3.2s? Or a single-in double out? If so, ballpark price?

If you're making a "preorder" list for for the 3.2L single in/single out version, then please sign me up...

BTW, any idea when you might have these available?

I need a "2 in and 1 out" for my '74 with 2.7L and am considering MB911's muffler, sounds like they are the "real deal"!

can you take some shots of the whole backend? Like standback a couple feet so we can see what the whole rear looks like with the new exhaust

Brad:
Here's how mine lined up; cut off @ 1" from the tail pipe. I'm having a bit of a problem sealing the exhuast side flange, the lower side leaks a bit.
Regards,
J.P.

Ben's muffler is a real hoot. 'Just got back from one of the last pre-hibernation drives and can't stop laughing at the sound this thing makes. When you pass other cars the sound reverberates as you go by; must give the driver a real wake up. When you wind out the motor, the sound is so intense; pure 911.
The welds in the construction are neat and smal, great quality.
I've shot a few pics comparing the Leistritz welds to Ben's unit.

J.P. Sorry have not answered your email back sick with the flu last week anyhow if the flange leaks take a file across the surface one way for 3 -4 stroke and then criss cross it the other way 3-4 times. This will show if there are any low spots. If you continue to have problems make sure your are not over tightening the flange all they really need is about 195 inch lbs of tq. Hope that helps

Ben:
The face of the flange doesn't have high spots; the flange itself isn't perpendicular to the inlet center line. I'm off on the muffler side flange by 3/16's on the bottom portion of the flange, the other side is parrallel. I'm using copper RTV sealant between on both sides of the gasket.
