Engine drop is done!!!

I was so happy to get the engine out! Now the fun begins!
I seperated the tranny last night and am ready to mount on the stand. Now I just need to find a few extra strong folks to help me lift that bad boy...

Great job! Perhaps borrowing a Cherry Picker or block n tackle will aid in getting the puppy on the stand.

Doesn't one of your neighbors own a forklift you can borrow???

Enjoy the process (I sure did) and take lots of pics.

Ralph

P.S. - Forgive me if I missed something, but why are you pulling the motor?

Thanks Rick and Randy. A Cherry Picker would be nice. I am sure I can rent one somewhere.

Carrera3.5L,
Tranny is leaking as is the engine. The car has 200k+ miles and the engine is running rough. I am repainting the car, replacing all window and body seals, getting new front winshield, new interior carpet and panels, and on and on. Not quite a frame up restoration, but a long job. I figured while I fix some of the engine leaks I might as well add some performance mods and get the engine really humming. I am not sure the bottom end has ever been a part and I would like to have it checked out.

Can you tell me more about your engine mods???

I recognize that grin! That's the one we call a "s***-eating grin!" You're required to wear it for at least an hour after doing your first engine drop. Congratulations, and good luck on the rest of those projects!

If you have the engine stand, mount the yoke to the case and have some guys help you lift it to the stand. Or you can get one of those ATV/motorcycle jacks and jack it up just about high enough to get into the stand. So has this engine already the top end refreshed? Please tell me you did not get 200k on the original clutch.

Good job!

Just a safety note... I can tell by the location and orientation of your jack stands that you have them on the rear trailing arms, and not the tubes in front of the rear wheels. Be careful! Much easier to slip off using that location for the stands.

Mike,
the jack stands where there only while we raised the rear end. Once the engine was out there were moved back...

Rick,
ATV jack... Hmm. Might get that!

The PO said the top end was done about 10k ago. No, not original clutch...

Congrats on hitting 200K. Your car should turn out beautiful after all the TLC you've got planned for it.

Check out the 3.2L>3.5L threads for an almost step-by-step account with the rebuild. Should give you some ideas to consider.

Keep us posted with pics as you go along. It's fun to see people's projects from the beginning to end.

I believe the manual states either 1 hour or until you finish your third beer, whichever comes first.
