White or Black Headliner
Well its itne to finaly replace my headliner and that brings up many questions and some needed feedback. I recall a thread that came out a year ago about the subject regarding the long term issue with the WHITE headliner versus the BLACK. Domestic versus German, etc.
Although my 1973.T sunroof coupe came with the factory white, I am leaning toward the black German vinyl replacement. My interior is fairly light to begin with (fawn dash trim, door panels and seats). I feel the white will show stains and may fade while the black is best at hiding it all. I know its all personal prefernce, but I would like to hear from anyone who had to make the choice as well and if they were satsified with the outcome. Is the German vinyla for $40 more really better then the domestic vinyl? regards Bob |

IMHO since replacing the headliner is such a pain in the arse, so I've heard, you would want to go with whatever color would look best for the longest period of time. I would choose black. Are you going to DIY?

IMHO, black is the best color, unless you are going for the orginal look

If original is not a concern go black , as far as material I don't think you'll notice $40 difference between German and domestic . Please PM me and I'll discuss some options with you .

white will show stains and dirt. I tmay take years tho.
For a few years I had a '75 with white headliner and a '73 with a black one - both with sunroofs. I could never decide which color I liked better. The white does give a more airy, open feeling. The black one, psychologically, encourages you to focus on the outside env. a bit more.

Wayne never did get the 101 projects car "right". I had a good shop finish the job and the grey head liner looks great. I also matched black visors. Car looks sharp.

Thanks.
I am leaning toward black myself. A local shop is going to do it. Pretty cheap too. Bob |

If the headliner still is physically good, dye it black with Surflex.
Mine looks like the day I did it 6 years ago -

I was thinking of replacing my head liner with a black one when I bought the car, but now I like the sublte differences of the longnose. I say original is better unless your car came with something unsightly, like the sephia brown paint job.

I went with white on the 69E, it brightens up the interior and looks great. I sometimes catch myself looking up. Plus, if you go white, you can always dye it black down the road.

Red-Beard - Is your sunroof not covered? This is the only area of mine that is sagging. Not sure how to tighten it up. Your's looks bare though?

Gee, my car is SEPIA BROWN!!!!
You know back in 1973 the choices were all bright colors (lemon, lime, grape, orange to name a few). The Sepia Brown had to be really tone down compared to the colors of that era. For those who still mock the Sepia Brown, please take note that its not the most desireable color in this day and age, BUT it was Doctor Porsche's favorite color!! His 928 was Sepia Brown and he adored the color. Now how does that figure? Bob ![]() |
