Rocket sled on rails: 911 roadster

Pulled out the roll bar, the top, and the last of the carpeting/sound deadening, took it for a drive. The car sits almost an inch higher than when I started. I don't know what it weighs, but I'll guess I'm close to the 2000# mark, if not under. The accelleration at this point is brutal, and I have wheelspin in 3rd gear. It's gonna such having to put weight back on If it weren't for my track intentions, I'd clean it up and leave it like this.

Had a run in with a kid in loud late-model Camaro. All the tire smokin' in the world couldn't help him; he was wide eyed in amazement when he caught up with me at the next light. I just gave him that "who's your daddy?" grin and took off again.

Updated page: http://66.34.72.138/light/index.html

I estimate that even after the cage, I'll be a little over 200lbs lighter than when I started.

I still have a bunch of take-off parts for sale:
  • c2 lid with controller, harness, switch etc
  • 1983 manual top
  • RS door panels + 6.5" Infinity speakers
  • targa/cab electric window mechs, glass & door shells
  • blaupunkt Mp3 player
  • Hirschmann electric antenna

Dude, that even sounds fast!! I currently have the interior out of mine and took it around the block and it felt REALLY cool. It sits at least an inch if not more higher. Then I developed a fuel leak and haven't drove in 2 weeks. I now have a replacement pump and am planning a little Thanksgiving morning jaunt with only the driver's seat. Heading out to Tortilla Flats/Canyon Lake.

"With visions of lightweights dancing through my head,"

Will be watching for updates. (as usual )

Sweet! We had a Thom Fitzpatrick dry spell to be followed by a flood. Thanks for the story, I can now get by another day or two vicariously. I'm not really making many kills in the miata these days. I could probably do it in the corners, but there aren't any in this completely flat 4 lane mecca that I live in.

Keep 'em coming THom.

The hood is fiberglass. Not a lot left to strip at this point without getting out the sawzall. I still have a bunch of tar board stuff to remove inside, maybe 1/3 of the original is still remaining.

When I took my spare out (and jack, etc.), the front came up 1/2" to 3/4"..........................I thought something was wrong with my shocks. Sounds like this could be the norm when taking weight out/off. The rear seemed to of come up with removal of smog pump and A/C which I did first but did not document. The car is still nose low, but I like that look.

Hey Widebody911, are you going to weld the doors shut and lower the windshield?

"Nothing left to strip?" ?!?!? What kind of pathetic lightweight junkie are you, anyway? A true lightweight junkie would never spew such nonsense!

Those Fuch's really don't suite the car anymore (I know, flame away). Some Fikse would look great and are very trackable.
