Removed Engine for 1st time... have a few questions

I just removed the engine and transmission together for the 1st time from my 72 911 T. It went fairly well with no real issues. My wife helped me keep it all together in a few potentially dark moments...

I also just seperated the engine from the transmission. The pressure plate is dry but there is a ton of transmission like sludge in the bottom of the transmission housing. There is also transmission fluid in the engine where the the actual transmission shaft mates with the engine. Would this explain why the car was shuddering a bit in 1st gear when starting from a complete stop?

I was also curious if there is a way to detemine how much wear is on the cluth. I'm intersted in understanding if the shuddering was the result of the leaky transmission fluid or a worn out clutch or both.

I would assume I need to remove the pressure plate to see if the flywheel seal is leaking.

Thanks,
Ian

clutches are clutches...if there is oil on them they will "take up" weird and began to slip.....sounds like a leak there some where.......

What vehicle/tranny do you have?
Oil on the Pplate will definitely cause slippage.
As for wear, if you have a 901 Tranny with a 215mm clutch, the thickness at new is about 9.5 mm, wear limit is 6.5 mm
