Gratuitous shots of my "Carerra" script...

Ok, it was sunny today, so I got a few photos of my work from last weekend.

Ok, so the angles suck, but the sun was really bright this morning. Now check out the coolest license plate in the world.

I think that is Dorkiphus speak for Slow Car WDP!

Looks great Rick. Now you just need some RSR bumpers.

Agreed. In the interim, lose those big black hunks of rubber on the butt and replace 'em with some plastic plugs from the hardware store

show me rear bumper pad removed on a 78-89

Hey Kevin, I was just thinking the same thing. Wha do you do with the light wires for the license plate? I got pulled over today for no front license plate, but talked my way out of it. Is it a problem to run with no rear plate lights?

Rick,

I've never had a problem with the rear lights, nor have any of the locals who've done it in my area. I figure a following car's headlights illuminate the plate better than the bumper lights. If VA doesn't have any sort of inspection for stuff like that, I say go for it. Just go easy taking the pads off. Sometimes they stick to the bumper and pull the paint off. Might find a tiny bit of corrosion under there too. Work a look at it IMO.

Here's a picture of what I did with my light wires:

I put some dielectric grease on the female terminals, covered 'em with heat shrink tubing and zip tied them onto the bumper shocks

Just wondering where you got your Carrera decals? I'm thinking of
getting a pair for my targa. How much work (time) did it take you
to put them on?

Allen, the previous owner gave me the script, but I hear some guy named Mikez sells them. Not sure if he's reputable though.

Took me under two hours and I probably should have taken a little longer. If you have a helper, it will be MUCH easier. I did it alone and narrowly averted disaster a few times. At the time the script looked perfect, but today in the very bright sun I noticed a lot of tiny bubbles that I could not see in the less sunny daylight last weekend. Definitely need soapy water in a spray bottle and a Bondo spreader for this job.

Am i crazy? For some reason I think your car would look better minus the duck and decals. I really like the RS look , but for some reason this 911 would look better without. minimalist like! Somebody photoshop that extra crapola out and let's take a peek. No disrespect intended to the owner, but I wanna see the rela thing.

Geez... I miss a few weeks of browsing and Richard gets a new car. Awesome! I must admit to lusting a bit after the big bumper cars from time to time. There's a certain elegance to their simplicity.

Chris.

Sweet - but I think there are laws in the state of Virginia for having a SCWDP and a Carrera sticker on the side.

Nice track car though - I would consider a SC for a track car. At some point that's the route I will likely go.

Thanks Rick, The following was posted a couple of years back. It seems like a great way to apply the decal without the soapy water hassle. Has anyone else tried this? And did it turn out OK?

If I may add my .02,

MASKING TAPE IS YOUR FRIEND !!!!!

I. too, do this for a living, and I'll add a few tips. Wash area with alcohol, no wax or windex can be left on surface. Position your graphic where you want it or according to the factory manual.

Left door "C' starts 1 cm behind the forward door edge.
Right door end of letter a at forward door edge,
bottom of stripe 5 cm from bottom of door.

When you have it placed, tape a "hinge" on the top of decal, from one end to the other. (hinge is two strips of 3/4 or 1" masking tape overlapping each other by 1/2") When this is securely in place, you can cut the decal in several workable pieces. If you carefully look at the script you can cut it letter by letter by cutting thru the middle of the letter where the vinyl is absent. You are only placing a 6" piece at a time so you can easily work with it dry. Peel off each piece of backing (the thicker shiny material) leaving the graphic attached to the top transfer tape. The "hinge" holds it in place and firmly smooth down from top to bottom using a credit card or squeegee. Remove transfer tape and masking tape together.

I have done many, many of these Carrera stripes and this makes it real easy. Have patience, a Corona or two and then start.
