CIS guys - what did I do wrong on pressure test?

I bought fittings to adapt a FI pressure gauge to the bosch stuff. I hooked the gauge directly to the center fuel outlet on the Fuel distributor and turned the pump on (trying to test pump pressure through the distributor). NADA no fuel or pressure. The gauge has a bleed off, thats how I knew no fuel was coming through the FD.

The car is having erratic idle problems but runs OK when warm (very high idle).

I cant believe no fuel comes out of there, even if my FD or fuel pump is bad the car runs so something should come out - right?.

The line to the WUR is open - hanging there could that be my problem? seems like that is just a return so it would not matter.

I waited probably 30 sec to a minute - for fuel pressure did I not wait long enough? seems like it should take a couple of seconds at most.

After I test pump pressure I have a "t" fitting so I can hook up between the FD and the WUR and check warm and cold operating pressures with the car running. Not as handy as the valve on the Bosche tool but much cheaper.

TIA

I'm not sure what your set up looks like Erik, but if your fuel gauge bleed-off was open, you won't get much pressure, if any. There is nothing to hold the pressure in.

The WUR outlet ties into the return line to the tank which also has the fuel distributor return tee'd into it.

Your erratic cold idle and high warm idle could be an adjustment (thottle bypass and mixture setting) issue.

Put the gauge inline with the line leading from the fuel distributor and the WUR, then tell use what your pressures are. It won't give you system pressure (which is not necessarily pump pressure..or pump capable pressure), but it will give you cold pressure, warm pressure and residual pressure. You should be able to see the pressure rise as the engine warms up, if you start from cold.

Thanks Souk. I figured the bleed valve would just allow gas to flow out (release the air first) until I closed it. Its like there is no gas going through the FD??? Not possible since the car runs when I hook it all back together. I will try putting the T in and starting the car and wathching the cold and wwarm pressures and I will check the out put from the pump. I still cannot figure why no gas is coming out of the top of the FD??

Hey EW.
On my 73.5T with the 2.4, I had a problem with idle and starting and resolved the issue with adjusting the mixture. I recommend that you try a richer setting to see if that irons out the problem.

Bob Sanderson adjusted my WUR pressures, but the mixture still required adjusting. In fact this colder denser air seems to be affecting my idle ever so slightly again, so its another click clockwise and I am set for the winter.

Regards
Bob

PS. Just how many Atlanta P-heads are around these days? Seems like several jumped ship.

There has to be fuel in the FD...what year 3.0 do you have? Did someone remove the frequency valve?

Its a 79 Euro, not sure about the Freq. valve I will have to look.

Sunroof, good question on the Atlanta P heads seems light these days.

I fooled with the mixture a little thats probably part of my problem. There is definitely something wrong beyond idle and mixture screw setting.
