What to do if there are no choices for PPI shops?
I am interested in a car located in a small town. If the one and only Porsche shop services the car, do I just take my chances and pray the seller is not buddies with the mechanic?

Yeah, as long as you get a written account of the mechanic's findings, I wouldn't worry too much. Although, I would make it a point to be present when the car goes on the rack so you can visually inspect the car yourself.

The car isn't in G-burg I take it? Someone on the board may be willing to go take a lookyloo if they were close to it. I didn't get one when I bought mine, and it worked out OK; BUT after cuttiing up my '67 and seeing all that I had missed during my look, never again. I would pay to have it towed if neccesary.

I recently went throught this. I'm in PA, car was in Dallas. I contacted Barry Gibbs at Nine-Eleven Enterprises about a PPI. When I gave him the VIN he told me that they had done work on the car. I then asked him if he was comfortable doing a PPI on a car when they had a relationship with the owner. His response was that when they do a PPI they are working for the buyer, not the seller, that they've p!ssed off a few sellers over the years, but they call them as they see them. Have a straight forward conversation with the shop about the issue, then determine your comfort level.
Barry and his shop are first rate, by the way. Wish they weren't 1400 miles away.

All of the above.
Find some PCA & Pelicans and work a deal with the shop for everyone to look when the 911 is in for PPI. People are more candid when the owner-seller isn’t there. The most important thing is to have people who are knowledgeable about the common issues and recognize everything. As always: What is the extent of any rust? Is there attempted prior repair? Has there been a prior crash? If so, how bad and how is the repair? The mechanicals are what the shop will mostly look at. You and others should concentrate on everything else. What year and model? Best, Grady
