I posted this picture on an old thread.

It shows the elements (if you have dial-up modem it may not be too clear). I'll take another picture of the full screen when it's light outside. Maybe halfway through defrost to show coverage?

I believe others have this same screen (GeorgeK?) which I think was option 577.

Yup - looks just like mine BUT...

Are you saying they run from the bottom of the windshield all the way to the top???

Because on mine they do not.

Superman is right. So for the three lever controls the two top (black) levers go to the right and the botton (red) lever stays left. I usually pull up my two heater levers at the same time since it is cold. That way I have cool air de-fogging the windscreen and soon to be warm air blowing on my feet. Those of you with the later more complex controls are on your own.

Next time you are de-fogging, when it is mostly done slide your red lever to the right and the windshield will actually start to re-fog!

yep. All the way to the top. The only area not covered is the bottom corners of the screen because the top length of the window is narrower than the bottom. If I remember, I'll take my camera to work tomorrow.

What Mike said.

db, when I say "clean glass," unfortunately I mean CLEAN glass. Ammonia does not do the trick, and it's not easy actually getting glass clean. So, good luck. There are some superior glass cleaners out there. The one I use was recommeded by an auto body shop, and they were right. The can is white and blue, and I think it's got an image of a housewife on it. You know, dress and apron. Actually I think it's June Cleaver.

That stuff works. PM me if you want the brand name. It lives in my trunk, so it's just a few hundred yards away.

Is that an OEM windishield or aftermarket?

Defrost as in melt frost off the outside, or defog the inside? Either way, good one.
I have found that some baby wipes will keep fog from forming on the inside for a limited time.

They say dryer sheets do that too. And there is anti-fog stuff in every auto parts store. I prefer plain ol' clean glass.

I start my car about 5 minutes before lift-off on cold mornings with the heat directed at the windshield (bottom dash lever all the way to the right), both floor levers up, and the footwell blowers on full. Works like a charm. On particularly damp days, I'll turn on the A/C, mixed in with the heat, to keep things dry. Again, works great. The 911 system is a little fussy to get the same results as a Chevy, but works OK once you get the hang of it.

Taking a picture of a see-thru object asn't so easy, especially when it's dark, but here's my windscreen just after turning on the heat.

You can see the areas being cleared vertically.

Remember, the oil mist dispersion device (Porsche calls it a heating system) does not keep your windshield "clean."

Putting the a/c full on can help dry the cabin air too.
Yep, in my 1989 this approach is even kind of "indicated" by defrort icons adjacent to each of the sliders on the climate controls.
