The author messed with one of these guys and got a counterfeit $15,000 cheque for his efforts which he proudly framed and displays. Of course, knowing it was a fraud, there was no loss on his part. Only stress and frustration for the scammer.

The chonology of events is quite comical.

He claims to be in Rome. I sent him another e-mail saying I had a friend in Europe who would be in Rome in the next couple of days, and asked if my friend could inspect the car. Here's his response:

Hello,
I have already 5 possible buyers and I can't wait. I need to be suer that you will buy the car. So if you are rally interested send me your name and address in order to contact eBay Square Trade and start the deal But for your safety in order to eliminate any concerns I suggest a deposit of $5000 and forward the transfer details to Square Trade so they can check the deposit, and only after receiving and inspecting the car you will send me the remaining balance. This plan is a common way of transacting business over the Internet and internationally.

Jim: I did the same thing as Frudster. I still have my $15,000 check from a guy in Ireland, drawn from a bank in Tennessee and mailed from Nigeria. Quite funny.

It is a sad note to realize that there are actually people that fall for scams like this.

I have received the same form email as above. I've now moved on and given him some info to make him believe he has a fish hooked. (Gave him a name which I'll reveal later, and the address of our station here in town).

Just waiting to see what the next phase brings.

I shall keep you folks updated on our progress.

Hopefully, if I can occupy his time, it might save some schmuck from being scammed in the meantime. Too many people want something for nothing... They're easy prey.

Is there such a thing as Square trade.....sounds like a good idea.....maybe I should contact HIM to find out!

There is such a thing, however he is not a member. He has tried this before when he hijacked a reputable users eBay account as rainbow1304.

Anyhow, I've now gotten him to send me the payment info. He has counterfeited some Square Trade payment requests, but the funny thing is, his english is as poor in these as it is in his normal communications.

I will post the emails shortly. Still playing with him.
