Goes to show... you just never know.
A few years ago I sold cars in Montreal while going to university. A middle-aged Korean guy in grubby clothes comes in a few days in a row, at about 515, obviously just off work. Looks at cars, asks questions then leaves to catch the bus across the street. The other salesmen don't want to waste an "up" on him, just kinda brush him off. 3rd day he comes in, wants to talk to someone, neither of the other guys want to take him so I do. Nice enough guy, had a real hard time communicating but gave him info, price, details, list of options etc... The other guys tease me about wasting my time, and tell me not to count it as an "up" cuz the guy's just wasting my time. Well sure enough, the guy comes in the next day at 515, asks to speak to me. Opens his lunch box, $37 000 in cash. I nearly s##t my pants. He was actually a bit annoyed, he was expecting to leave in the vehicle that day, but no paperwork had been done, so no registration etc... We gave him a courtesy car for the night and I delivered the car to his home the next morning... He wanted to be able to drive it to work that day. This guy had worked at some factory for 15 years, taking the bus every day, and wanted to drive up in his brand new car. One of the other salesman made a fuss, wanted half the commission. He said he had spoken to the guy first, so wanted a split.
