Turn signal

I had a front (passenger side) turn signal bulb burn out yesterday on my 77 911S.

After removing the old bulb, I found that neither the new (1157) bulb nor the old one would fit back into the socket properly. Both seemed loose... even though I fiddled with the stupid things for over 10 minutes.

For example, the new bulb lit up OK, but only when I held in in by hand.

OK, so is there some little trick I'm missing here? Should I take the whole fixture apart just to change a simple bulb?

rotate bulb 180o -- & not the prongs on the side of the base are offset axially

and... check the tabs in the socket - make sure they are not bent too low

clean it all up carefully & smear a thin touch of dielectric grease on the mating metal portions

be sure th rubber vent thingie is in the housing and is open and clear.
