I have no idea what this means. |
Wait a minute....what just happened?
|
This is becoming Twilight Zonish.....
|
I think Harold means his initial checking on the engine were the calls to the seller and to Mike after the engine was received and he noted some "issues". After these calls, his confidence restored, he installed it. "My mistake" is his reference to the old saying, "buyer beware"...
|
After creating all this fuss, the least he could do is give a clear explanation why everything is great now.
|
Nothing is ok now, I just ment that I belived the seller, went ahead and installed all only to find out the mess I am in with this engine.
By the way, this is how I work: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1104099989.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1104100011.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1104100043.jpg I wanted to save myself some time - thats why I opted to buy an already done engine - now I am going ahead and do it myself - and I am looking forward to do so. Hope pelican has the 92 mm rings I will need thanks, harold |
Harold, Just wondering if the engine in question was put into this 1971t for sale that you show on your site? Description seems to be the same.
Just wondering. |
Yes, that was the plan.
Sounds like a demokrat. Now I have this nice red 911 - came from nevada _ and no engine in it. thanks, harold |
Harold,
This whole things seems odd to me... It seems as though you were geared up to rebuild this thing anyway. That is a bunch of parts to simply have "lying around"... or, do you have a shop? Anyway, to Wayne... Obviously this motor was grossly misrepresented. That negates the need of a "warranty". The misrepresentations would be obvious to anyone with a tiny bit of motor knowledge. Harold... Why have you not pursued this further with the seller? |
Seems like hbrand doesn't use English as his first language. That makes it tough to understand some of his posts. Now, I wonder how difficult it is for him and sellers/buyers to communicate on eBay. There is a lot wrong here, there are two sides to every story and communication is suspect. Nevertheless, it sure doesn't look like a professioal job.
On the motor itself, I have to ask those that know more than I, do those pistons look like they have 50 miles on them? At 11:1 (or 8:1) with any kind of gas? Also, if a motor is sold as race motor, which I don't know if it was, the seller should indicate what is needed for fuel. Like I said, a lot of information is missing here and may never be complete. The weirdest part about the whole deal is the pic of the table with all the parts laid out. Someone would do that, but buy a used motor, received it dirty and with evidence of silicone oozing out and still install it? Sounds like he was willing to let those problems be someone else's problems in the not too distant future. I remember the seat deal that pwd911s refers to. As far as I'm concerned, Harold jerked someone around back then. But, that's old news. Anyway, that's what pwd is still annoyed about. When I decided to sell my sport seats, I contacted pwd to put me in touch with the buyer that was rebuffed. Done deal, everyone is happy. Oh, well, it's a public forum and that's my 2 cents and worth not even that. |
Thanks Milt...I'm kind of old fashioned in some ways...in that once somebody indulges in behavior I consider flakey...I remember it. There's an old phrase that if a dog bites you once, it's his fault. If he bites you twice, it's your fault.

Anything wrong with this general rule: When buying an engine on ebay, assume you are getting a core and nothing else. To assume more is risky.
|
I still do not know what the "F" the deal is with this whole thread. The only thing I got from this whole deal is that HBRAND does to explain things very well and that you need to do you homework, the latter I already knew.
|
Sad story. I had a much sadder one with my race car but, I guess I should have known better than to trust representations instead of a proper full check.
If something sounds too good to be true..... |

I mean, huh??? Now I'm confused too. But that's cool. A very entertaining thread nevertheless. Maybe it's just eggnog hangovers getting the best of us. Peace, my 911 brethren. |
Regarding the picture of the table of parts: Did anyone happen to notice the date stamp on it?? He is only trying to show how he likes to work......I think.

100 HP per liter is a number that the factory never achieved with a normally aspirated engine after some of the early 2.0 engines got over 200 HP. It's highly unlikely that this was even close to 270 at the crank. -Wayne |

Still, a lesson to be learned on used or unknown engines - unless you rebuilt them or got to drive them, it's always a question mark. Particularly on race motors. I've seen a bunch of race motors that have been built with left-over race junk that weren't really worth their weight in lead. I'm really curious as to how this turns out too. Perhaps I'll give Tony a call tomorrow and give him a heads up on this... -Wayne |
I'm curious as to what Mike Callas has to say about this. There's lot's not said here. All we've heard from is the buyer. And we'll ever hear from the seller.
