Wayne so true,... I have a 5 hour maximum race motor built by a very reputable shop I'd rather not mention. It leaked, and when opened to fix it, ........ first thing I found was a screwdriver (one of those liquid wrench freebies), different pistons, improperly installed oilers for the cams, ...... I better stop, my heart rate is creeping up....

On your advertisement for the 71 911T that you say has this engine, you said:

"This has a modified newly rebuilt 2.7 liter engine and is as fast as the 911RS models. Over $10,000 invested in the engine alone!"

Just curious how you came to the "$10,000" figure?

JeremyD 12-27-2004 08:03 AM

I make it a general rule to only believe 1/2 of what I read on the internet. If it's ebay - then I 1/2 it again.

That being said - it's a used engine from a high performance car. One that has been allegedly been rebuilt. Unless you (1st person) saw them rebuild it, or by name or association you know someone is on the up and up who rebuilt it, then I think you will ALWAYS be taking a $5,000 to $10,000 risk.

WOW.....this is getting better.....Someone calling out HRBRAND on a bluff in his ad selling his 911 with over 10K in the motor alone.....although he told us he paid $4500 shipped....interesting....

sounds like he (hrbrand) never learned his lesson after getting flamed for the deal on the seats pwd talked about...

Just a Thought.....

cegerer 12-27-2004 10:06 AM

Just an observation: $4200 for a professionally built 911 engine with 0 miles? Isn't that just a tad low? Shouldn't the red flags have been going up immediately based on the price alone? Heck, I've seen sport seats sell for more than that ..... ;)

Funny...I got banned from the Rennlist discussion group for commenting on an Ebay dispute just last week......:D

LakeCleElum 12-27-2004 10:22 AM

About here, I think I'd just delete my orginial post about the whole dammed mess and move on.............

I checked on a few things and found out that Hbrand did complain that the engine was dirty. Rennsport offered to take the engine back and clean /rectify any problems. Hbrand refused and got a partial refund for this. It is also interesting that Rennsport said that it went without an oil cooler so the pics showing the prodigious amounts of rtv is in error. Rennsport does feel a little blindsided by the post since this happened quite a while ago and no other contact had been made.

Bottom line, IF YOU HAVE COMPLAINTS ABOUT ANY BUSINESS OR PERSON ON THIS FORUM DO NOT POST IF YOU HAVE NOT EVEN ATTEMPTED TO RESOLVE IT.

Kurt B 12-27-2004 12:17 PM

If there's a logical explantion for the condition of the engine after it was mailed from the rebuilder, that will definitely come to light. It doesn't with the last post I'm reading. That doesn't seem to "explain the engine"--at least to me(?).

I see no problem with what Hbrand said originally. It was subdued, but he was disappointed at its condition--esp after it came from the rebuilder directly.
I don't care who you are or how thick your skin is or how much dope you got crammed into the water bong, when you think you're getting a rebuilt, b!tchen engine and you find out you have to rebuild it, you're going to be disappointed. His post reflects that.

Thanks KurtB. You said it better than I could have.
My natural language is German, and in general I belive what

Curt, I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read this. If I had been, liquid would have been coming out my nose...

Or you could quote good ole George...

Hbrand spent $4500 and the previous owner spent $5500. Add them up and you get $10,000.

Cool. I could sell my 3.2 Carrera motor to my brother for $10000 and then buy it back for $10000 and have the $25000 motor I've always wanted..................:p

charlesbahn 01-02-2005 07:49 AM

Fuzzy math at best.

There is a $5000 bump for "verification" and "storage in a racing trailer" where magic elves work on engines at night and wrap them in plastic.

I love it.:D

Actually I was including the original "Real" purchase price of ~$5000 from several years ago. ($5500 for the engine, harness, and a new pair of front A-arms).

Of course things are much more expensive when you want to sell one rather than when you want to buy one, right? I guess something's wrong. It always seems to work in the reverse for me.
