Jack has been asked this before on this forum. As his personal WaterBoy(TM), I've dug up the answer:

JackOlsen:
It sits in a fiberglass flush-mount piece, and is secured by small fasteners all around. I added some sealant, all around, because it wasn't originally designed to be weatherproof. I got it from TRE Motorsports.

It is a great aerodynamic aid, but for street use, it may make things a bit warm in the cockpit. Just conjecture. Jack knows if it really makes a difference.

To Jack,

I am ALWAYS in awe whenever I see pics of your car! An absolutely stunning machine!

Thanks.

I don't think it makes the cockpit any warmer, and I like the fact that (unlike most Lexan) it doesn't require metal reinforcements to maintain its shape.

It does make noise, however. It's sort of like the sound of a styrofoam cooler -- not too loud, but noticeable.

Weight and aerodynamics are its benefits. Visually, it attracts water residue, and scratches easily.

RickS might have been thinking of losing the exhaust vent above the window. My guess is that Jack's time in the car is either going veeery fast, or having the a/c on.

I like it - it's a very clean design soution.

Randy - "you are correct - sir." The loss of the external vents could lead to excess heat in the cabin - but considering that Jack is no slouch behind the wheel - it is mute.

Being a rattle and squeek freak - styrofoam like sounds would drive me nukin futz - but the weight savings and improved aerodynmics make sense (when some one makes a silent version).

BTW, here is a rear window tidbit. Pete Stout states that the Glaverbel glass on the RS lightwts. was 3.1 mm thick instead of the stock 3.5mm. But, that is only an 11% savings. The Plexisglas is a much greater savings than that. Technocracy marches on....

I wonder if applying the 3M clear film will help the scratch issue. Will it adhere to the Lexan? (The film I'm talking about is the stuff they put on cars these days instead of a vinyl bra...like helicopter tap(?)) I saw a guy apply the stuff on a M3 on a TV show once.

Original glass will not fit. It had no effect on the headliner, although there's a little less of the inside edge of the window covered.
