Need Input on PCA

Need Your Input on PCA national and local chapters. I was wondering what your impression was on PCA in general and your local chapter in particular?

Do any of you get involved in the events?

What do you think of PANORAMA?

How about your chapter’s monthly mag?

What would you like to see PCA national and regional chapters change?

Do a search and you'll find lots of threads on PCA.

Highlights
  • A lot of regions are whiners and cheesers who just like to gather around and compare trophy wives
  • Many people find the biggest plus of PCA are the DE's, except in Northern California, where they're redundant
  • LA sucks
  • san diego rocks
  • Your chapter is what you make of it
  • if you're in it for the driving, try POC or PRC, or one of a zillion other driving clubs
  • Panorama is pretty much a PCNA marketing tool

In my area, and given that the only thing I'm interested in is DE driving, my money's better spent on SCCA, NASA, etc. Thom's right - it's a highly regional thing.

Northwest region has an awesome autocross program. Lots of events for the helmet-heads like me, and lots of other events for the look-at-what-I've-got-in-my-garage crowd.

Great bunch of people.

Add the Rocky Mountain Region to the ROCKS category!!!!

Our members are some of the nicest people I have ever met.

The DE program is outstanding and the wine and cheese crowd is more than friendly.

I'll second Slider's assessment of Rocky Mountain Region. Very active real car folks. I'm still fairly new to the region, but everything I've seen has been positive. Down to earth people, a wealth of combined knowledge, friendly, helpful etc.

Wow, what do I think of PCA.

Well, when I bought my first 911 at 26 I was stoked. I joined the local chapter and found out I was by far the youngest member. Due to my loud mouth and attending every meeting and event and trying to make the club something better, I became VP of the local chapter. Then I met the "old people" opposition. They say they want to change, but when it came time to change, no one wanted to do it. It didn't help that our Dealer Relationship sucked too.

On the brighter side, the get togethers were always fun and the track events were a blast. I always think of Pano as worth the cost of the PCA membership.

Even now at 29 and on my 4th 911, Getting over the age barrier sucks. There just doesn't seem to be much respect for the young PCA members.

CVR ( Connecticut Valley) ROCKS....Tons of really nice folks and lots of DE's plus a Club Race. No problems with being the younger guy either(I was 30 when I joined)

Cheers, James

The dues are only $42 a year, so sign up and try it for a year. I would like the option to pay lower due and not get Panorama. I stay a member because we have a great local region (Redwood), which has frequent driving events, Saturday morning runs and nice social activities I can bring my wife too, which helps when she see the invoices from Pelican. So if you have a good local region that will make all the difference.

Add the Redwood region to the “it Rocks” list.

NER, NNJR and Rennsport Region are all great chapters. Access to quality tracks for DE (Watkins Glen, Limerock, MT.Tremblant, Mosport).
You will always have a good crew to get along with @ DE. Not much into the social scene (wine& cheese, dinners, fun runs, etc).
Panorama is part of the price of admission. I only read a very small % of the content (less than 10%). Prefer reading this BBS.

Still on my 1st 911 at 24 but I know your feeling of being a young member. For being in PCA for a month now and going to 2 events in the OC region I have had a good time and seen some good cars. The run these guys did to the Children's Hospital was awesome and great to give back to the community. As far as driving, I have had more fun in the recently established SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY GRUPPE.

Here is the thread I started a few months ago:

What's your impression of PCA?
