Qusetion for 3.6 converters
For those that have converted to a 3.6, what exhasust did you use and why did you chose that route. I am trying to see all the different options that are out there. If possible, could you also post a pic?
Thanks for the help. Jeff

Cheap option: Carrera exhaust
Medium price option: Modified 993 headers Expensive option: B&B Headers Not-so-good (for me, at least) options: GHL, SSI's or headers without heat exchangers. I went with the Carrera for a while, and then switched to the B&B when funds allowed.

I went with a B&B exhaust because a used one came up at a decent price when I was doing my conversion. Then, because I hadn't done my research, I had B&B make me a new, smaller muffler with cats, because I thought I needed them. Turns out I didn't, and they look real purty sittin' there on the shelf...

I have done a search, thanks. Thom and Jack, are you running the 1 3/4 or the 1 5/8 headers?
Jeff

I went with B&B for my conversion. They had fitment problems with my set. Get 1 3/4".
1 7/8 from Timmins is IMO too large for a non-race motor. Without a doubt, if I did it again I'd go for the Timmins' headers.

Thanks Craig, I just talked to Timmins today and that looks like the best way to go.

I'd like to think I've got a big case of BTDT and will dispense 3.6 transplant advice to anyone willing to learn and listen

I used ssi at first, great for street, rotten for track, B&B 1 3/4" od are fair to good(if heat is needed that is the fair part). Steve is also selling some headers he and McNeil out tigether, that might be another option.
Whatever you do skip the B&B mufflers, they su*k, Flowmaster crossflow plumbed in w/ 2.5" ss pipes works well but is loud. Mine B&B 1.75, Flomaster ![]()

Bill effectively has the same setup as I do - I have the steel (custom made locally) instead of stainless Fabspeed that Bill has. Go stainless and learn from my mistake!

So what is it that sucks about the B&B muffler? I've never known anything different.

I had 5 of them fall apart before they stopped honoring their lifteime waranty, and the passenger side outlet from the can is ~ .75" on the newer ones.

I used the stock 993 heat exchangers, with the Timmons /Mcneil muffler. The muffler was sbout $1300.00. Sounds great.Nicely crafted bit of work. Dan

i went with the Timmins' package. Instant-g stainless steel exhaust plus cat plus headers... 1 3/4 as Craig was saying.... At 3k it is not cheap... Will let you know my impressions when conversion is over...

Jeff:Is the 3.2 upgrade off of the table now, or are you weighing both options still?

After numerous dyno tests I've done and seen from various 993 engines on the same dyno, I am convinced that headers add *zip* over the stock 993 HE's --

I went with stock 993 heat exchangers and a Triad 3.6 muffler due to cost and sound. The heat exchangers supposedly flow great, but I cannot attest one way or the other for the muffler, as I haven't dyno tested any other options. I love the way it sounds.
