Pelican Parts Need your opinion on this topic...

Okay, for the last 7 years, Pelican has had the same on-hold music for our phones: Dave Brubeck's greatest hits. Mello, yet not too unhip, in my opinion. Several of my employees have indicated to me that they think that the on hold music is a bit dated and out of touch. While I don't really agree with them, perhaps it's time to mix it up a bit.

So, I will embark on making a mix of tunes to play for our on-hold music. Any suggestions from the Porsche crowd?

John Tesh. Just say no.

Why don't you subscribe to one of the XM or Sirus satellite services. Commercial free and quite a variety. And for weekends or long drives, use the receiver in your car...

now it would be lots of work to collect all of these songs, but it'd be cool.

Hmmm, not too much help so far. I was thinking:

- I can't drive 55 - Sammy Hagar
- Life in the Fast Lane - Eagles
- Panama - Van Halen
- That T-bird song - the Beach Boys
- Drive - Cars
- Cool the engines - Boston
- That Steve McQueen song by Cheryl Crow
- Turn the page - Bob Seger

???

There should be no music. There should be no "on-hold" time.

Ok, so that's an impossible dream. Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" was used on PBS TV between programs for so long that I now hate it. However, it is one of the most inovative tunes ever recorded in that Brubeck was the master of meter change within a piece and exposed the technique widely due to the song's (and the album's, "Time Out") huge sucess. (First jazz record to sell a million copies).

But, your guys are probably right. Time to move on. Even though Brubeck is an old friend of my family's.

Good taste for 7 years. It'll be hard to follow.

BTW, "that T-bird song" is Fun, Fun, Fun ('till daddy took the T-Bird away)
Seger's "Turrn the Page" is kinda depressing. He has a road song, "Roll Me Away," that rocks a little more, even though it's also about a bike ride, metaphorically.
Just my .02 in the jukebox.

Get rid of the music and have one of those customised infomercial type voice-over people tell your customers interesting and potentially revenue raising factual tid-bits of information about Pelican Parts.

I once phoned a local Nissan dealer parts department and got put on hold.
They played local traffic and weather news.
I was so shocked I hung on till I was served...
