Rear Hub Play

I'm in the middle of some winter projects. Last winter I installed new rear wheel bearings (not one of my favorite jobs).

After I removed the rear axle and rotor, I found that there is a little bit of play when I wiggle the hub...just a little.

If I push in one the hub, like it would be with the ridiculously tight hub nut, it's snug and feels tight. Question is: Is a little bit of play OK, or did I screw something up last year when I did the install. Please tell me I don't have to do the rear bearings again.
