These look horrible. Please Help.
![]() Do I have these painted or anodized. Do they go to the body shop with my other parts. Or some where else. Does the body shop powder coat. I would like these perfect as the are a main part on the door. I would buy new but its way to much. Thanks. |

Wurth Satin Black would probably do the trick....Pelican sells it.
You'll have to ask your body shop if they powdercoat.

If you are thinking between painted and anodized - I'd go with anozided. They came from the factory anodized, and they look crappy because someone painted them.

I had the same problem. Mine looked like they had been previously painted. I went with some nice used ones with original finish. I could never find anyone locally to anodize these or my lug nuts. No one wanted to mess with such a small order and I couldn't find a DIY way to do it either.

Harbor Freight has their powder coat kit on sale for $60 plus another $10 for the material. Might be worth considering doing yourself!

Aren't those painted over chrome?
You might ask your body shop guy what to do. Paint doesn't stick to chrome. There is such a thing as black chrome that can be done by some plating shops. Anodizing is an electolytic process and not paint. David Duffield |

Yeah, you don't give the year of the car. If it is an earlier car with chrome handles, they are made of steel and I don't believe they can be anodized. You could have them blasted and powdercoated and they would be very durable, though.
From the pic, it looked to me like under the chipped paint is faded anodize. If that's the case, they could be reanodized, which would be the best way get them "like new" again, IMO. |

I've heard this over and over....Was I just lucky? I painted my chrome bumpers on my suburban about 4 years ago and have had no problems at all, I scuff sanded w/ like 80 grit, cleaned w/ acetone, primed, and painted. Also the car guys on Speed had a new product that is supposed to stick right to it. Scott |

What year is the car? the handles are either chromed, or black chromed. They are not anodised. Your best bet is the same paint as the Wurth satin that is so liked for Fuchs rims.

I painted mine with Wurth a week or so ago. I stripped with a 150 or so sand paper. Then used that self etching primer and then painted shortly after, within the time frame suggested on the primer can. Does this mean my paint is going to fall off. When I put them away, they look great.
Should I clear coat? I was planning to. David |

Geof33, I'll buy at least the driver's side if Strep doesn't need both of them. Sent you a PM just now.
Aren't the handles the same on either side, just flipped over?

The black 911 door handles are not anodized - they are black oxide. I took mine to a plating shop years ago to be refinished, and the guy there said he never saw such a procedure used for car parts as it is expensive. It is a multi-step plating process that he had to strip off. The base metal is plated with another metal - copper or something. The the black oxide is applied to that metal.
Mine still look like new after about 15 years since the refinishing.
