SC/Carrera Front Wheel Fitment

I've used the search button gang..really I have, BUT!

Has anyone run an 8" wheel with a 4.5 inch offset in the front before? (Note: the 951 8" wheel has approx. 4.9" offset, and some folks have reported using them in the front. Yet, they didn't report the degree of labor to make them fit!)

What tires did you use (brand and size)?

Did you have to stretch the fenders?

I've already rolled my fenders, but I might have to stretch them.

FYI: I'm trying to run 225 Victoracers on the 8 inch wheel with 4.5 inch back spacing. My car is a 76 which is essentially the same as an SC or Carrera.

Help please, I don't want to buy any new paper weights

Edit: Also, has anyone mounted 225 Victoracers on a 7 inch rim?

I have 951 8's with 225/50/16's Yoko AVS Sports - just had to roll the fender a little - a little negative camber

Why bother on an SC....225/45s with a 7 inch standard SC Fuch fits without mods.

Mike,

I had 205's on a BBS rim, which replicated the 7 inch Fuch dimension, and I was getting major rubbing on the left lip. Granted my suspension was a bit soft. I plan to lower my car (the 76) more than it already is so I'm likely to kiss the fender. I had to field roll that side at the track...before that, I test fitted 225's on the same rim onto my car, and the dang tire stuck out almost an inch!

My front end is back dated (ha! and my rear end is forward dated! I don't don't which way I'm headed ), but shoot, I don't think the '71 fenders I have are any narrower than a SC fender, right?

Oh and...I'm trying to buy four wheels (10 inches in rear and 8 inches in front) that match, but the front 8's can only offset by 4.5 inches That's why I don't want to run 7 inch Fuchs. Want the fronts to match the rears...what do you think my car is? Some Bastard with parts from here and there!

Dunno what to tell ya....moved my rears to the fronts....put 8s on back, slammed it to the ground with Konis, and a strut brace.....no rubbing with 225/45 Kumho 712 Ectas.....

Not sure is this helps you, but on my 84 I've got 7x17 OEM Cup IIS with 1.25 inch spacers with 225 Victoracers in the front, and it's set slightly lower than European height.

Fender is rolled and the only time I get rub is a particularly bad shallow spot in the road.

Strut brace, 22s and Sports and Chuck's bearings are all in there too.

Thanks Shaun, I know I can run 225 Victoracers up there, heck someone (Skinnerd?) is running 245's I think with ~6 inch back spacing on 8.5" rims.

A simplified thought..is that 2.5 inch (~2.6 with 7" Fuchs) on the outside of the wheel is going to be OK, but with the wheels I'm looking at I'll have 3.5"!!! ICK!

The 951 8's leave ~3.0" on the outside of the hub...so I may be in trouble with my 3.5...or have to stretch, my fenders a bit.

I have some "custom offset" HRE Fuchs replicas that are 8x16s in the front of my '76. I am running 245/45-16s (Yoko A032s). FWIW, the backspacing on these wheels as they came from HRE was 5.125 inches. Needless to say, that didn't work. I am now running .375 inch spacers (yielding a backspacing of 4.75 inches. In my opinion, 4.5 inch backspacing would place the tires too close to the fender lips.

I have rolled my fender lips and probably "stretched" them a little, too.

It's been quite a while since I measured these wheels, but I think my numbers are correct. I can pull one off tomorrow and check them if that would help...

Mike

Mike,

Don't pull them off yet. I think Bill Verburg will probably come on this thread and tell me I've been smoking something But 4.5 is like 0.25" further out than your wheel! Surely I can pull the fender out far enough...nah

After I read my own reply, I thought the same thing. :>) Surely another .25 inches wouldn't hurt anything.

I just walked out in the garage and took a look. That extra .25 inches would make a difference. In fact, I'm a little surprised that I don't see a little rubbing now under suspension compression (but I'm not).

It'll be interesting to see what Bill has to say.

I know 2mm spacers on 951 brakes was enough for me to look else where. I can't afford ANY more push to the outside...

I'm running 951 8s up front with 225 Toyo RA1s. Fenders are rolled. They fit better than my 7s. I have no problem with rubbing but I also have around 2.0 degree neg. camber up front.

If you look here you will see that front 8s want 5.5" - 5.75" backspace

Hey Souk,
I've put 225's with 951 8's on two cars with a little massaging.
The new Hoosiers were the worst, but the Victoracers weren't too bad.
Didn't we have this discussion a little while ago?

Yes, Pete, but at the time, I didn't want to stretch the fenders. I've already rolled the lips, but I might get a pair of fiberglass fenders for the track and do some glass work to make a front flared fender that is a little wider than stock, not not nearly as wide as a Turbo fender.

I sent you and the the local gang and e-mail..you'll know why I'm asking all this.

Ooops. I guess my numbers (from memory) were off an inch. I must have 5.75 inches of backspacing now - not 4.75.
