Do you mean it will not stop running even after you remove the key? 930s have a run-on relay that keep the engine running for several seconds after you turn the key to the off position. This is a safety feature to help cool the turbo. If it is running about 10 -15 seonds and then shutting off I would not worry.

I mean that the engine will not stop running after I remove the key and the charging light goes on after turning the ign. switch off.
The engine still running more than 20 sec. and would not stop. |

930's do not run for 20-30 seconds after the ignition is turned off. They will die off 2-3 seconds after a shutdown, but that's it.
Does it run smoothly for that period of time before it quits?

I just had the engine rebuild in July (by my self) and drove the car till November without any problem.
In december I put the car in the garage for winter periode. But went begin january to start the car and it start OK. When I turn the ignation off the engine will not turn off, but the battery light came on. I stop(shut off) the engine by pulling the feulpump fuse out. |

Sounds like a bad ignition switch to me, I mean what else could it be?? If the switch is in "off" position and motor/ignition/etc. is still energised, you have a bad switch, period. We don't need The Thin Man for this one.
![]() As for the "run on" feature that keeps engine running for 10 seconds or even 3 seconds, this is not true/correct. Where did you get that info, Zcat?

For those who have owned 930's, you know the engines don't stop when the engine is turned off, they continue to turn over for a number of revolutions. This is due to the energy stored in the flywheel to dissipate on a low compression engine. These engines are optimistically rated at 7:1 compression and do not stop like SC 3.0 or Carrera 3.2 "high" compression engines. It's not 2-3 seconds, but it is definitely at least 1. Just seems longer.
ignac002, Did the battery light come on and stay on when the engine continued to run after the ignition switch was turned off? I thought there was a black relay on the distribution panel that was used to for the ignition.

the delayed ignition cutoff relay keeps it running for a few seconds, unless it's been bypassed, but that's not your problem. the alternator light being on suggests a bad diode(s) which keeps the fuel pump relay energized. did you jump the battery backwards at any time recently? pop out the gauge with the charging light in it and temporarily remove the bulb from the charging light, which will keep the alternator from going into charge mode. start it and shut it off to see if that corrects the problem. the alternator still has 12V from the wire running to the battery terminal on the starter solenoid, so if the first trick doesn't work, completely remove 12V from the alternator by removing the red loom from the starter solenoid, retighten the nut on the solenoid and try again. process of elimination.

Hi,
John walker Wat you have told me is realistic, so I will do exactly what you told me. I will first check the diode behind the KM counter gauge to see if it is OK. Then I will proceed. |

I have this same problem in my SC. Here's what I have done.
-Switched out the ignition switch (the electrical portion that you can turn with a phillips head screwdriver). -Pulled the alt light -Checked for dual element bulbs in single element locations (John Walkers suggestion). Can't get it to shut down w/the key. I am just living with it. I stall it in first gear to shut 'er down.
