915 Euro transmission question

I was wondering if anyone knew the differences between U.S. and Euro 915? I have heard the gearing is different. Do the Euros all have 7:31 R & P? Are gear ratios lower or higher?

I don't know the minor gearing difference, but the R&P is the same (8:31). The Euro has the oil pump/cooler set-up, which is the main difference.

I don't think all the Euros have the pump/cooler. I am pretty sure there is a gearing difference.

Just about all Euro's that are non-cat have the oil cooler....

Euro cat cars ( optional...yields a tax break) did not have the cooler.

Final drive were 8:31 I believe...but minor 3rd, 4th gear ratio differences...almost impercptable.

Gearing is definitely higher. My buddies Euro Carrera has much different gearing than my US 915.

As has been mentioned, minor differences in a given year, a little more variation between years.

When I was building my car I wanted a 915/67 or 915/69 or 915/72, al. case, lsd, cooler, these were used on '84 -'86 ROW Carrera

for track use you will probably want lower closer 3,4, 5 anyway.

Send a message via AIM to beamonk
would a 3.6 car with a US transmission be better for the track than a Euro geared transmission?

The difference in gearing is minimal, tire choice is more influential.
