It's part of a 3 clip series, in japan - posted before, but it doesn't get any less painful. My theory is that the gas tank area is part of the crumple zone, but once its integrity is breached (in an accident) all bets are off. That may come off more simplistic than I meant it. What I mean is the tank's good for one hit only.

Looking at the larger clip... its so amazing that the driver lived through that... he even got up to walk.

Where the hell was all of the help? It was like one guy out there with a fire extinguisher... and he pulls the driver out of the car too. Anyone know of the fate of the driver?

I just watched the larger clip...

I kept thinking why is nobody helping the poor driver. One brave guy with a tiny extinguisher, then the safety truck comes and everyone is worried about everything else. The driver should never have to wriggle around on the track like that... suffering and disoriented. His helmet looked melted... Very sad.

That was really messed up. It took forever for help to show up, then they just leave him on the ground? I hope that accident forced the track to improve their safety, what a mess.

The guy with the extinguisher was the driver of the yellow Porsche that drove by just as the Ferrari stopped. You could see him pulling over to the side in the video. Did you notice the driving shoes on the guy and the fact that he was not wearing the same color gear as the safety personnel?

I say kudos to that driver for valiantly helping the driver of the Ferrari. He saved the guys life.

holy crap It's like...spontaneous combustion...

Yellow car that passed the Ferrari looks like a Viper...or maybe a C5R.

Too late for me, the link is dead-are you over on your bandwidth? I'd really like to see the entire clip.

That's the video that convinced me to upgrade the fire system on my racecar. The driver actually sued the track and won a very large sum of money.

Chris, I think we would need about 20 or 30 fire systems in the car to sop that from happening.

It almost makes you want to enclose your fuel cell in another fuel cell, wrapped by another bladder, coeverd by another fuel cell which is enclosed by a steel safe with 10 inch thick walls....

I HATE THE THOUGHT OF FIRE IN A RACE CAR......
