H/E removed. now ? about valves

This afternoon I took my stock Heat exchangers off, w/suprisingly little trouble. We made a quick stop by Sears for a socket w/the 8mm allen bit and an offset 13 mm box end and a 13mmsocket w/ujoint already attached.

No broken studs to report, however about 5 studs backed out w/the barrel nut or the regular nut still attached. The only other problem we had was removing the heat shroud from the CAT, we had to finally use the torch to cut the bolt heads.

Now that the motor is free of the H/E's (and the ability to see the exhaust valves) I would like to do a little cleaning. Is it alright to take a dremel and buff the inside of the exhaust port? or is it better to leave it alone? since some of the valves are open.

It looks to me that the valves are in good shape, I am a little concerned about the white coloring on the valves, I'm not sure what would cause that. (maybe running a little rich) 4 of the 6 have the white coloring.

Phil,
Aside from cleaning the sealing surface where the gasket goes, I'd leave the exhaust ports alone. I'd reuse the barrel nuts, probably run a tap through them and replace the backed out studs with new ones (999.062.239.02).
That chainbox looks kinda damp. It's probably was just a leaky cam feed line in the past that made a mess but you might want to check the back of the box (as best you can) to see if the cam thrust plate gasket is leaking.
Beautiful car!
-Chris

Thanks Chris for the compliment on the car, I won't have to re-use the barrel nuts, I got all new hardware from pelican when I ordered the SSI's, And I was able to locate new studs from a local bolt supply company...so that is no longer an issue for me.

I'll take your advise and Just clean the sealing surface for the gaskets. Along w/some other cleaning of the engine and tranny.

thanks
