need some sale pointers
Hey, I recently put my 86 911 with 91K miles on Ebay, 7 day listing starting at 12.5K, 1000 hits and 26 watchers later there wasnt a single bid.
Should I try autotrader? a classic car sale site? try ebay again? I really dont want to sell for less than 12K. thanks -Matt |

Have you posted it on the Pelican Cars for Sale board?

Common ebay theory is that its bettter to start w/ a low starting price (and set a reserve). That way people start bidding, and tend to feel more of a 'connection' w/ the sale.
You should list it here- it should sell. |

Hey Matt,
I agree that posting here will probably sell it for you, and without having to dip a toe in the ebay cesspool. For what it's worth, it looks like a very nice car, and it's an '86 which is the best model year from the 80s according to lots of people who own one. Your ad was missing engine pictures, mention of paperwork, etc. It's hard to put too much information about the mechanicals, flaws, etc. in the ad. Can you substantiate the 91k miles? And this is just my opinion so please don't take any offense or get defensive, but I would yank all of that stereo equipment out and sell it separately. Re-install one of the crappy Blaupunkts from that vintage and sell the other equipment separately...on ebay. Take a bunch of pictures, a hundred if you can. $12k for an '86 Carrera without any serious problems seems like a great deal. Good luck with your sale. Cab

Try autotrader.com. People on ebay don't have any money for cars and I'm not sure they do on this site either.

I'm with Ubiq.
Set a low starting price (I've seen $ 911.00 on a TT996) with your reserve of 12K. Contrary to some opinions ebay sells lots of cars (over 500,000 in 2003). As a matter of fact I bought mine on ebay...

What's wrong with the car? $12K for an '86 with 91K miles is cheap. I've seen them going for anywhere between $15 - $18K.
