Show me your carpeted back seat area
I have read that there is a RS carpet package that eliminates the rear seat, panels and back deck. I am considering doing the same but would love to see some pictures, especially if you have done something different for speakers.
Please post a picture of your carpeted back seat area.

I am about to do the same, I just ordered a RS plush kit for my '79 SC. I dont know if should build a speaker tray for the carpet to go over or just use new better door speakers. Lets see some pics.

I built a shelf for mine out of 1x pine, then covered it with matching carpet. Also made carpeted side panels to work around my OG rollbar. I didn't want to cut up my stock panels and this was a cheap and relatively attractive way to go.
I eventually mounted a 10 in sub under the passenger side shelf (built a box under it) and mounted the sub amp underneath on the driver's side. It works well, sounds pretty good and is virtually invisible. I'll try to dig up or take a few pix.

What is the plastic/vinyl pc covering the seat belt reel? Is that just on older cars? My SC has a vinyl covered piece covering the whole quarter area. Does the carpet just loosely cover over the seatbelt reel or does one have to fabricate something when switching to RS carpet?

crash - many have said about 30 lbs.
see www.rennlight.org and look in my spreadsheet BTW, folks - instead of pine or plywood - you might try getting some Al hexcell material -- it is very stiff and light.

Side panels are made of double walled cardboard with super high quality Pep Boys (pretty darned close color match) carpet glued on with spray glue. Simple and super cheap.
![]() Had to make deck in two pieces to fit. Only the one rear screw is drilled into the car to hold the deck down, the rest is just held by it's own weight and the sides wedged against the roll bar.

I was considering deleting the rear seats to make the 911 more carpool friendly. In my area you need three people to make a carpool which is ridiculous in the 911. There is an exemption if you only have two seats - then two makes a carpool.
I was wondering if cop would hassle me with only two passengers if I removed all mention of the rear seats. Was there ever a stock 911 that didn't come with rear seats? |

What is it?
What is the vent circled in red in this pic? I have seen it in some cars here, but thwne I went to check mine out last night, it is just a solid panel UNDER the carpet? Just curious what purpose it serves.

It is to gain access to your shift coupler. Usually they are covered with carpet, but some of us have just cut that portion away and mounted them without the carpet. It looks good in some cars and if you ever need to adjust your shifter, it certainly makes access easier.

I've always wondered why it is vented and not solid - it lets noise into the interior. A plastic piece might do the trick there and save a few grams.

It is vented to recirculate air for the aux. gas heater which was an option on the early 911. There should be a solid piece of cardboard type material under the vent if you do not have the gas heater blocking air flow from the smugglers box and noise.
