New CV joint out of the box, the cage doesn't move, what gives?

The old CV joint I can slide the cage with the balls, however, the new one is intact with the balls in place, but the cage does not move around (back and forth).

What's going on?

I got the new cage to move with some lubrication, but it's firmer than the old one. I have an early 911 with the "stubs". Do the replacement "stubs" just hammer in?

The new joint will be stiff. The "stubs" are 10x20 pins (10mm diameter x 20mm long). Yes, those go into the CV joint. I would be careful with the hammer as you don't want to mushroom the end of the pin.

New joints are always a bit stiff.

Be sure to clean the pins very thoroughly with brake cleaner spray ... before trying to install them into the new CV-joints!

I wouldn't use anything harder than a plastic deadblow hammer ... with a piece of hardwood resting on those Spiroloc pins!

OK thanks. I'm feeling better about it now, as the new one is moving better/correctly with CV lub. (I think I may need a replacement flange though, as this one is out of round)
