Hey Jamie,
Just been working and getting settled in. Hope all is well with you! James |
I ripped mine open and put an extra red oil pressure light and a green alt light in the housing, not pretty, but hey, its a race car....
Jim |
great idea, a V1 there would be cool!
|
bell and Overpaid Slacker have gone very creative on that clock replacement. I foreward them this thread.
|
I agree the V1 idea is great. Then you could hard mount the receiver to a bracket under the visor clip and run the power wire under the windshield seal.
I was going to mount the switches for my hood lights there. Using an aircraft style locking switch. I have seen someone place a vent there for additional dash cooling. works great for pre SC cars that lack the dash vent. |
I like the V 1 idea. I was also thinking cly head temp, one gauge per bank?
|
bell and I used the dual ga mounted on the console. I forgot who did the dual in the clock. You got plenty of options. I'll eventually install 3 fuel psi ga's and maybe a volt meter.

that is cool! thanks Ronnie. As always, you come thru. When are off on your next big trip? Any idea where to get that gauge?
|
see if noho speedo can make you a custom one. put some pics up of dear old scruffy, we miss her out here. hope all is well.
|
ok.. I just did a search.
mikez in Calif did the single CHT and volt ga. His info is on the 1st site below. The others are good info and some really nice installs from many pelicanheads. You could probably keep finding info by searching CHT or EGT and RoninLB http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/149286-cylinder-head-temperature-gauge.html?highlight=CHT http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/186805-cht-probe-placement.html?highlight=CHT http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=89442&perpage=20&highli ght=cht&pagenumber=1 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=147079&perpage=20&pagen umber=1 |

Hmmm....an altimeter would be a cool 'conversation' piece.....:D |
I love the V1 idea. Has anyone done this? Someone tell me what it would take to do it.
|
Yes - if anyone has put a V1 display unit there, pls post a pic.
I think I prefer using the seatbelt warning cutout -- it's already rectangular (but needs to be enlarged). And there's some irony in using it. |
Not exactly what you are looking for but still very cool

Time to do the "Weekend Bump"
Has anyone converted a clock to a V1 remote or does anyone know what it would take to do this? |
I think I am going for the CHT gauge. Going to contact HS to see if they can make one.
|
just get block off plate sold for the clock hole and jam the remote unit in it. It'll be ugly, but will work fine and is cheap.
Esthetically, the V1 remote is a rectangle and will look funny embedded in any of the round gauges or holes. I suggest putting them in the seat belt warning light slot. |
|
Ooh, now you're talkin'! Very nice Randy. Who did the work?
|
Yea...were did you get that done. I really want to change out the oil level guage and replace it with a fuel pressure guage in my '69 Type-4 turbo.
-Britain |
North Hollywood Speedo. They can do almost anything you want.
The small LED turns on when I pull that switch to turn on the auxilliary trans fluid pump. A really cool guage would be one of the early 914 small VDO guages with three windows in it, instead of the usual 911 with two. Here's a turbo tach I had them convert the old electrical boost to a voltmeter, I use a mechanical boost in the clock space;http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1106436084.jpg |
That looks pretty awesome. This is what I have now:
http://www.britainsmith.com/Porsche/...0_0003_JPG.jpg I want to convert the oil tank level to a fuel pressure guage and I want to convert the extra urbo tach that I have to display an air/fuel guage for the turbo. I will give them a call. -Britain |
a lot of cool ideas. I am going to get in touch with them I really like the trans temp volt meter!! all of these look cool fellas. Anyone have a good source on those early 914 gauges?
|
|
How is that shadow outline "RS" done? Looks great.
Is it just a late model trunk lid emblem in black? |
Joe your car is really coming along, nice work!
|
Randy,
It is a trunk enblem that someone gave me. It looks great in the car. James, I was going to update my project on Pelican tonit but the battery in my camera died. I got it running last night. Wait till you see it. She should be all buttoned up by next month. Getting back to the thread. I like the big oil light. For safety reasons. If you look at my dash where the radio used to be, I have space for 2 or 3, 3" gauges. Maybe ill put something there. |
