Custom Gauge Ideas...what you got?
I have gotten pretty far in the wiring of the car and I am now at the point of figuring out which wires I need to run for the gauges. Yes, I know this is a 912 but since it will have a type-4 engine I need a CHT gauge and/or possibly a EGT gauge. I have the combo oil temp/pressure gauge as you can see in the picture. I also have a boost gauge for the turbo side of things. I was thinking of dumping the oil level indicator in the far left gauge since I am not running a dry sump and therefore do not have a external oil tank. Does anyone know if there is a CHT gauge or a EGT gauge that I can get custom fit in there by Palo Alto Speedo?
I also have another tach that is the 930 style with the boost gauge in it, I could have them redo that for another gauge also. I wonder if it would be possible to integrate a air/fuel ratio gauge in there? I have seen people put volt meters in there, do you think that a volt meter is necessary? Share you ideas and show me what you got... -Britain ![]() This is the gauge that I want to change: ![]() Here are some gauges off Palo Alto Speedometer and Hollywood Speedo sites: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Britain,
Looks nice. Why not use the green & white faces for an early ’66 look with the body color painted dash? You will get serious double-takes when people realize what the gauges are – part of the fun. In addition to gauges, I am a fan of warning lights. I have an adjustable 35 PSI oil light (917 P/N), broken fan belt, over temperature lights, and low fuel pressure. These can easily be incorporated in the gauges. A voltmeter is a useful diagnostic tool. With a turbo type-4, why not a dry sump? All the parts are readily available and you can even use a modified 911 oil sump tank with the VDO/Porsche oil level gauge. What is your planned use? Will it use gasoline or methanol? If on gas, you should consider the “Rubbermaid Solution” on this Forum. Cool project. Best, Grady

I will incorporate several lights in the dash for warning indicators. These are very inportant to me for intense driving sessions where the eyes are one the road. I am going to be running a Carrera fender oil cooler, but keep it wet sump with a deep sump mount. What is the rubbermaid solution? -Britain

The mouting of the Valentine 1 in there is pretty slick...I like it. I think it would look even better with a black faced tach. Anyone have any idea how they did that?

Here is the page that shows the installation...a friend with a 993 sent this to me.
www.p-car.com Radar Install I might try it on a old crappy tach that I have to see how it goes. -Britain
