Yokohama S1's make bad snow tires.

I found out the hard way, trying to make it home before I got stranded. (I should have just let the car sit overnight)

It was like driving on completely bald tires. All of a sudden I am going 90 degrees to the right when my wheel is still straight. )

Passenger side tires slid into a trench and I was done for the day. I waited four hours for the tow truck.

Now I have to watch the tow driver try to remove my car from the ditch without destroying my undercarriage. I am fortunate there was no damage.

What's a good all high performace all-season tire? Snow tires are overkill for my area. I heard good things about the Yokohama Avid V4s.

Have you ever wondered why all of the rally cars use very tall narrow tires in the snow? The last thing that you want for a relatively light car with lots of HP in the snow are "steamroller" tires.

Winter tires aren't just narrower with a different tread design...the rubber compound is vastly different. Hi-per tires are like linoleum in winter......

I know everyone says to get skinnier tires than stock, but I went with stock size Blizzaks. The reason being is that there are not that many days that we have snow around here so I wanted some decent dry weather grip. When it does snow I have had no problem getting around. I am running Blizzaks 205 front and 225 rear.

Last year, there were several threads on a Cayenne BBS from guys who just couldn't believe how poorly the all-wheel-drive Cayenne handled in the snow. One guy rammed his garage door and made the case for defective brakes ..... Of course, all of these mental midgets had their hi-perf tires on!! AWD/4WD really doesn't make a difference if you're on racing slicks

I've got 225/50 Blizzaks on my M3 and the snow handling is outstanding. Blizzak dry road handling? That's another story ......
