What did you get done for $50 Ben? I assume that would be just welding up a mount that was starting to separate from the frame. No grinding or replacing with a new one I assume?

Also, what kind of shop did the work for you so reasonable - a welding place or a mechanic or what?

Warren

i mig them. repairs vary from a simple straighten the bent part and/or weld up a crack, or slicing off just the bottom 3/4" and welding on the same section sliced from a new mount along with the extra brace from the new mount, (which i do most often), or welding on the entire mount after removing all of the old one, removing the rubber undercoat from the area (very flammable) and grinding the area clean.
hell, for the $1000 repair price you could buy a new welder, do it yourself, and take the wife out to dinner for a week. and keep the welder for the next project. mig is easy to figure out. with a few scraps of sheet metal to practice on, to get the heat and wire speed correct, you'll be welding as well as most people in about a half hour. point and shoot.

Dart Auto in Denver did the job. They are mechanice and dismantlers. Great guys with integrity. He did have to grind, weld and strengthen the mount. I was amazed that he kept the price so low but that is what he originally quoted me. They even painted the area to protect the metal from rust.It really wasn't that hard of a job; getting the car in the air is a must. Hope you find someone with the same level of customer service.

John,

I was intrigued by the way you handle this repair: cutting the bottom of the damaged mount off and welding on the bottom of a new mount, including the reinforcement. Is this easier than removing the old mount entirely and welding in a new one? If I go the "entire mount" route, do you have any thoughts on the updated factory mount vs. the Wevo mount? Do you position the repair part by bolting it to the sway bar and then holding the sway bar in place with a stand, or whatever?

Thanks.
