Tune and break-in will probably yield about 310+ RWHP |

OOooohOOhhhhh......you should hear it idle.
POP POP POP POP....high compression goodness. Race gas. |
I think I know that car. If so, it was fast enough. It always blew by me like I was standing still when it had a mostly stock engine. I hope he's giving rides when it's done. I'll bring a some extra tidy whities.
|
Its the car you think, Don.
He wants it under wraps for a bit, though -- |
pop the deck lid, check oil, adjust shocks...I like it a LOT!!!
|
Did he set up the Motec w/ the stock induction? Seems like a real waste. What cams did he end up w/?
|
Yep. Not sure on the cams, fairly wild.
|
I would like to see the dyno sheets when it is done
Sweet motor Michael |
Had a really funky, wavy/jagged power curve up top - some serious tuning req'd
|
The Motec point is a good one... maybe the motor is set to be "expanded" in stages? Or is the tunng ability of the Motec unit worth the extra labor with some other system?
|
Well, it is finished.
It made its 'public debut' at the PCA track day this past Sunday. Hellaciously quick. 2690 lbs. I believe there are about 5-7 more hp when fully broken in. The chart of my 3.6 Varioram is right below Ted's to use for comparison Ted Anthony 3.8 with MOTEC and 100% 110 octane race gas. I had Ted switch from a B&B muffler to a Magnaflow we had sitting around. Instant 11 hp. Same dyno, same conditions, same tuning. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1113246656.jpg Craig911 Varioram - 92 pump unleaded with 3.8 cams http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1113246830.jpg ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The car: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1113246937.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1113246959.jpg |
So 10% increas on max power, 5% increase on max torque...
Craig I think you should be pretty happy with your engine... The torque you are putting out is incredible... even when compared to the best! |
I wish it were mine!
It is a friends' - Ted Anthony's I've got the Varioram slug (which BTW has the same power to weight ratio as Ted's car - 2405 lbs vs 2690) ;-) |
That's what I meant... "only" 5% increase in torque with MOTEC and 110 octane gas between your slug and Ted's beast. I bet there is more than $10k diff between the 2...
|
.......my thinking exactly
|
So ya think 2150# and 280 rwhp (new muffler pulled another 10+ as well) will hang in there with your cars ;) Depends on who puts enough rubber down I would think. Jason running the most? Never seen his numbers or weight.
2690# and 305 hp = 8.819T 2405# and 277 hp = 8.682C 2105# and 268 hp = 7.854A 2150# and 280 hp = 7.678D 2650# and 430 hp = 6.162L  |
Do you have 2150 as a solid & final weight for your car?
I hope she doesn't rattle and reverb as much as another stripped early car I know of...... or those road trips will be hell......will make the 'wind noise' trivial ;) But yes, it will be an acceleration BEAST. As always.......its is all about Power to Weight! Have the dyno chart for us to see? I'm telling ya.....you will LOVE it. But you have already experienced a 3.6:cool: |
All in due time my friend...
Still doing some engine tweaking and the new car has yet to be on the local scales for the official weigh in. I'm doing several exhaust configurations on the dyno to see what we come up with for final #s. No worries on rattles and wind noise as it will be much better than before. Which was better than a new 'SC. Gotta remember I intentionally built a street car. To be honest a 3.6 is nice but not all that impressive for my own use. The reason I changed engines was the improvements in engine management and engineering, not power. The 3.4 CIS was fine. Mid '70s Porsche technology though verses '95 Porsche technology leaves little choice. When it comes with another bump in power who's to argue? |
