won't start when raining???

Hi,

On two occasions, the engine turns over (1/8th turn) for a split second and then stops dead!!! I managed to start the car by turning over the engine manually and then trying to start again.

I have recently changed to carbs ... could there be water ingress into the cylinders or is water affecting some electrical component (starter?)

Thanks for your help in advance

pcar fanatic

Check your distributor cap. It may be getting moisture inside.
It might be time for a new cap.

Does the starter continue making a whirring noise after the 1/8 of a turn? If so suspect loose starter or worn ring gear.

If starter just goes click and then nothing check battery terminals, engine earth strap and starter connections for security / corrosion

Do your air filters prevent water from leaking into the carbs?

Hi all,

thanks for the replies.

The starter does not continue making a noise nor does it click ... engine just stops dead in its tracks as if something is holding it.

I do not have normal rain sheilds on the air filters but rather the small K&N plate above it .... I will change that and reply.

As for ignition leads and distributor cap, I have recently changed them (with carb conversion) so i'll have a look at them as well
