Oops! am i screwed??

i got my new shifter bushing kit today from PP(on time as usual) and i started to take everything apart, well i got ahead of Waynes book and went onto the shift coupler without reading ahead, and i took it apart without marking where it was postitioned, and to make things worse, i didnt see that you should shift into first before doing any of this, is this a big deal?

also, how do i get the shift rob bushing out? i rotates around the rod but i dont see how to get it off?

hopefully i didnt mees too much up, i shall await help before moving on.

TIA

Bio, (name would be nice)

Have you looked into the tech articles on the PP website?

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_short_shift_kit/911_short_shift_kit.htm

The page above is for installing the short shift kit, but it also gives you a step by step instruction for indexing everything.

Another one with instructions on adjusting the linkage:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_shifting_improvements/911_shifting_improvements.htm

Also look here:

http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm

This is the master index of tech articles. Lots of good info there!

To remove the old plastic bushing just put the shifter rod onto a vise to hold it, then a pair of pliars on bushing and pull away. When I replace the two bushing one shifter rod the other in tunnel bushing that hold the 3 foot long rod ,and I didn't have Wayne's book yet. I also didn't mark anything ,only the Haynes book.

do you recall what gear the trans was in?
if not, do you know how to put it in 1st?
if so, put the trans in 1st and the shifter too. move the coupler around a bit and tighten - check to see if you can easily hit all the gates. if not, mark & move.

if you can't do the above, then try to get a rough alignment with the lever in neutral - then do the procedure above.

details are in the threads - the above is an overview -- works for me.

Your not screwed but you are going to learn a lot about how much patience that you have, just remember don't be throwing things around in a P-car.
