Have you looked into the tech articles on the PP website? http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_short_shift_kit/911_short_shift_kit.htm The page above is for installing the short shift kit, but it also gives you a step by step instruction for indexing everything. Another one with instructions on adjusting the linkage: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_shifting_improvements/911_shifting_improvements.htm Also look here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911tech_articles.htm This is the master index of tech articles. Lots of good info there! JoeA

To remove the old plastic bushing just put the shifter rod onto a vise to hold it, then a pair of pliars on bushing and pull away. When I replace the two bushing one shifter rod the other in tunnel bushing that hold the 3 foot long rod ,and I didn't have Wayne's book yet. I also didn't mark anything ,only the Haynes book.

do you recall what gear the trans was in?

if not, do you know how to put it in 1st? if so, put the trans in 1st and the shifter too. move the coupler around a bit and tighten - check to see if you can easily hit all the gates. if not, mark & move. if you can't do the above, then try to get a rough alignment with the lever in neutral - then do the procedure above. details are in the threads - the above is an overview -- works for me.
