993 retrofit

I posted a request last week asking if anyone could tell me if 993 composite valve covers work on an earlier (930) motor. My engine is twin plugged and I also need to know if the holes align for the second plugs. My understanding is yes to both. If any one could confirm they'll work I'd appreciate it. By the way I would also like to buy a nice set of 993 covers if ithey work. Thanks

I don't have an answer to your question just some advice.

A more descriptive thread title would help in getting an answer i.e. Do 993 valve covers fit a 930

Steve, I tried that last time and had over 100 views, but no reponses. Perhaps nobody knows and I've stumped this vast pool of Porsche knowledge. I guess I'll just buy a set and roll the dice. Thanks for the advice though.

As far as I know, there are 3 seperate valve covers (that are not interchangable); early 911, 964, and 993. I bet the twin plug wouldn't be an issue but the basic valve covers between those 3 categories are not interchangable. How do I know? because I'm doing research right now to consider making billet valve covers.

I've fooled around with this and will try it again. The most obvious difference it that pre 964 valve cover studs are 8mm and the 964/993 covers use 6mm. There may also be some issues with clearing the cam housing oil line fittings.

Here's some more links:

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'll get hold of a set and see what the deal is and post a clear answer. I'm doing this all for weight saving reasons, so perhaps its a moot point.

The 993 covers also have an extra stud on the out side. I discovered this when I wnt to 964 cam towers and wanted to use the 993 covers. I opted to use the 964 covers because the 993 covers would have had one less stud to seal them down. So I think the answer is no.
