What is currently the best big brake upgrade for the front of a 911 with 18" wheels
I have 11" x 18" up front with 1" spacers. Will I need to change master cylinders? Is it time for dual master cylinders and throw out the power brakes? Thanks Todd

my first question is how in the hell did you fit 11x18 inch wheels in the front even with a 1 inch spacer?
Secondly is it a track car? If so you might not want all that unsprung weight. Or are you just looking to fill up the 18s? with rears as small as yours, I wouldn't only do the fronts... sounds really dangerous even with a proportioning valve... imho. Personally I think the 3.6 965 turbo brake setup is the best one in the world for a pre 993 911. 993s are heavy enough that they need bigger rears.

Thanks Andrew & BillV.
The body is custom to fit the wheels/tires. My intent is primary street use with a little track / drag time when I can. Yes, I am looking to fill up the void of the 18's Rears will be next. - Good Point! Thanks for all the help! Todd

Depends on how much you want to do yourself...
Tough not to go with a Bembro Big Red kit from our host $1795 for just the frontsThis is sort of like the how fast do you want to go? and how much money do you want to spend....

Thanks Jeremy, I will be doing all the work myself!
I know " Big Red " has been the standard but there are som kits offered as " Brembo GTP " and then some offered as " 993's " I just dont know what is the best way to go... Thanks Todd

I decided to go GTPs... They are lighter and have more surface than Big Reds. They are also a little cheaper. They are a bolt on kit for the 911... No need to machine anything (I think you need to dapt the Big Reds somehow as they were never meant for the 911).
I cannot give you any driving impressions as they haven't arrived yet. Also I would not have any basis for comparison. Steve Weiner is a big fan of the GTS... he also sells them.. so no surprise he wants to push them.. Big unknown is pad avaliability... GTPs are still new so it is something to consider. As Bill was saying you can always splash 7k and get a set of Evos... |

I have been happy with my 993 brakes - and they sure fill up my wheels better than the stock brakes... ![]() Link to thread

For a complete set (i.e. front and rear) it is going to be tought to stay around $2k
The GTP kit is from Brembo... same as the Big reds |

I got in under the $2K mark for all four wheels - that included new soft lines and new at the wheel hard lines. That's the good part about the 993 calipers - they are plentiful - and easy to find pads for...

There are many pad choisces for the GTP's. PFC, Pagid, hawk etc. it all depends on your preference and what you want in a pad.
Cheers, james
