The Meaning of PET

I've seen a number of references to PET in talking about parts. From those, it appears to be some system about porsche parts. I don't know if this is part of a factory parts system or some thing independent. Is it a catelog? A reference work? A parts supplier? Can anyone help me out? thanks.

Don

It is the computer based parts catelog.

Has every part for every Porsche ever made. (for the street)

This may help, then aagin it may not.
PET also stands for Polyethylene Terephthalate which a type of polyester plastic. It has low moisture absorption and good electrical resistance. It is used in many applications. I don't know if Porsche uses it in any of the parts they make but it normally imprinted on a part for recycling and engineering purposes.

yah! me too!

Ersatz actually means replacement, e.g. ersatz RSR... an often noble aspiration

Here's Pelican's part number: U-043-400-05

But I guess it's not available yet.

They're only about $11.

I thought BMW (motorcycles at least) also use the PET system for parts. If my memory is correct PET must mean something other than Porsche....

Actually Ersatz means replacement, so it would be Porsche replacement parts catalog.
