How much is 3.3 Turbo engine worth?
Sorry for the newbie question:
1979 930 Turbo, Eurospec, 65K miles, running / driving fine Assume leak-down test is fine and no known or visible problems How much would that complete engine sell for (everything that drops out, incl accessories, intercooler, A/C, etc.)? I had thought $6500-7500?? In a different post, someone thought a 1989 Turbo motor was worth $5000. If a nice 3.2L Carrera motor with DME and harness goes $4000-6000, isn't a Turbo motor worth more? Not that I ever bought a turbo engine. However, I can tell you that I was quoted 6500 for a normally aspirated 3.2 at a local dismantler. That's with you bringing back an engine in EXCHANGE.
![]() That said, I would think private sale, the turbo engine should at least fetch $6500? George |

I've always thought that if my engine blows it will be closer to $10,000 to get it all back happy again... um... don't tell my wife that.

$8500 That is the most common asking price I have seen.

Is there something about a euro motor that makes it worth more or less? Does 65K or 95K miles make much difference?
How fast would it sell at $7000? $8000? |

7K is about right. C2T engines routinely go for 8.5K

There is a '78 turbo motor 49k miles complete with exception of intercooler for $6,000 in the classifieds right now. Wish I had the dough.

Being a Euro motor may make it more desirable to someone who is looking to mod and still retain the CIS. The Euros had a different fuel head and larger fuel lines.

'79 Euro motors are 300HP stock. US = 265.
Core/rebuildable 930 engines should be worth around $4500 complete. Price goes up from there.

Too big to fail

Any motor is a core unless you can see it run. I know this the hard way.
I went last weekend to look at a Turbo engine with a buddy of mine. The seller made all kinds of wild claims of mods and HP (350HP for a non-intercooled 3.0L Turbo Carrera engine) that was missing it's distributor and a few other bits, and looked like it had been setting a while. He claimed to have an offer of $9800 on it.

Personally I just don't understand the asking price for many used motors. If the motor is 20 years old and has lots of miles. Its tired and needs to be rebuilt yet some sellers insist on top dollar. I am not going to pay top dollar for a motor I will be tearing down. There are no top motors that are that old. /rant off.

This one is still in the car, running and driving fine as it is used as a 'fair weather driver'

Why is the owner selling a good running engine?
Given that the motor is currently being used and will pass a PPI your figures of $6500-$7500 should not be far off. Rebuilding one of these aging giants is huge bux if you do it right. At 65K miles you might get another 40K out of it if it has been babied or another 5K if "fair weather" means running the crap out of it and put it away for a few weeks. A good mechanic can tell you if the latter is the case. Is that gamble worth the $2000 over core cost? It would be to me. Personally I love the Euro 930 engines. They come ready for mods right out of the box. The US engines must have the Euro exhaust added before you can effectively do any mods. Having gone through the horrors of rebuilding a "used" engine I would gladly have paid the $6500-$7500 for a PPI certified one like you are describing. The parts alone are worth the money if in good condition.
