I've been told the recorder is backordered. But I ordered from a different vendor. Let me know if you get yours, Jojo.

I wanted something that wasn't available on the market, so I designed it and had a handful made.

The first place I tried to order from turned around the next day and said "backorder" so I canceled it. USB|Gear is where I will try next, here's what they show for time in what looks like the lowest resolution:

"Video record - MPEG4 file format (xxx.ASF) - 4 levels video quality recording - Economic quality mode can record 182 minutes in 512 MB memory card"

Jack's video looked pretty darned good (like George in Armani) for the cost of the rig.

The site says it uses 5V DC. Is there a 12V to 5V DC available, say Radio Shack?

Steve

Guys, this sucks...

After Jack mentioned that his was on backorder, I called USBGEAR to verify that they had the minivcr in stock. The salesperson said yes they had it and also mentioned that I didn't need to ask as long as the webpage mentioned it was in stock. Fine. This was friday, less than an hour after I placed the online purchase.

Today (monday, HAPPY VD!), I get an email from them...

...so I guess I have to wait for the next email? What a crock! I'm going to call them and see where the disconnect is... The www.secursite.com page isn't working right, either... and there is a mispelled word at the bottom "loged", instead of "logged". Man, what a bummer...

The 959 thing I added to the email is a joke, I had to do something to make me feel better.

I'll keep posting as things pan out...

Awww, cra!@ That's the same email I got last week, obviously the same huge company working under a blanket of different names.

I should get ANOTHER copy of that message in the next few days telling me my 2nd attempt (this time from USBgear) is yet again on backorder.

I'm just going to sit on this one until it shows up after I've forgotten about ordering it (wow! Christmas in ...)

I went to the secursite page and inquired about the order. I just received feedback this morning. They said that the shipment was hung up in customs and they expect to ship to all that have ordered late next week. Xmas in Feb? Let's keep our fingers crossed...

I really like these. I'd like to find a faring style exterior lipstick camera mount.
Something like you see on televised race cars, anyone find a link for those?

Here is a link for nice $30 VCR padded case.
Must be good same name as Wayne's biz.

Jack,
In addition to rbcsaver's question about powering the unit, I was wondering what you use to set it up, i.e. how you view the selection menus to begin recording.

I don't think anyone has actually received this thing, yet, but I'm also curious about powering and "operating" it. Can you click "record" from the remote control?

Yeah, I suspect they're all sitting in a container somewhere between here and Taiwan. As soon as we see them, we'll get some answers.

What's odd is that this isn't complicated technology at all. I have two digital still cameras that can shoot video until their memory cards fill up. You can even feed video out of them, putting them in normal mode (like you're about to take a still picture) and 'monitoring' the video with a cable. But the camera has a shut-off programmed in to save power, so if you're not recording, the camera has a short lifespan functioning as simply a remote camera.

That is a video RCA connector. Most camcorders with an Audio/Video input come with a cable that plugs into the camera in one end, and has 3 RCA inputs on the other end (2 audio and 1 video). That cable will plug into the video input, which is typically yellow. For sound, you'll need an external, line level, powered microphone. Chasecam.com sells them for ~$21, and supercircuits.com also has a version that's a bit cheaper in price and perhaps a bit lower in quality.

Thanks.
The look of that plug had me confused. Guess I got to take a look at it again. seemed smaller than a usual video connector.
I am first going to try my setup without sound for easy sake.

You can get the adapter to female RCA at Radio Shack. You can get cheap microphones there, too.

Jack,
You probably mised my first post re: power for the recorder. It takes 5V DC, what converter do you have for 12V DC to 5V DC for the mini-recorder?
regards,
Steve
